Gravatar While Hanlon says that Iraqi civilian fatalities are down, other sources say otherwise:

"The findings include:

• Iraq is suffering about double the number of war-related deaths throughout the country compared with last year — an average daily toll of 33 in 2006, and 62 so far this year.

• Nearly 1,000 more people have been killed in violence across Iraq in the first eight months of this year than in all of 2006. So far this year, about 14,800 people have died in war-related attacks and sectarian murders. AP reporting accounted for 13,811 deaths in 2006. The United Nations and other sources placed the 2006 toll far higher.

• Baghdad has gone from representing 76 percent of all civilian and police war-related deaths in Iraq in January to 52 percent in July, bringing it back to the same spot it was roughly a year ago.

According to the Iraqi Red Crescent Organization, the number of displaced Iraqis has more than doubled since the start of the year, from 447,337 on Jan. 1 to 1.14 million on July 31.

However, Brig. Gen. Richard Sherlock, deputy director for operational planning for the Pentagon's Joint Chiefs of Staff, said violence in Iraq "has continued to decline and is at the lowest level since June 2006."

He offered no statistics to back his claim...

The big question is why Petreaus isn't following his own advice that he laid out in the military's counterinsurgency manual, where he wrote that it would take one troop for every 40 inhabitants to put down an insurgency. Not providing adequate forces to do the job has just pushed the insurgents elsewhere (i. e. "the whack-a-mole strategy") as evidenced by the linked article.

Gravatar Ummmm, winston? Look who you are quoting please.

AP, 20 beheaded bodies that never existed and they had to retract it:

http://wwwwakeupamericans-spree....ies- update.html

Reuters, HUGE massacre that never happened:

http://wwwwakeupamericans-spree....aq-make- up.html

Associated press France:

http://wwwwakeupamericans-spree....sted- again.html

Um, all yahoo resources Winnie.

All proven false in their "rush" to report rumor.

So, you will excuse me if I research actual numbers from sources that haven't had to apologize MULTIPLEE times for being mistaken, than the "sources" you listed, which are THEM.

Gravatar You are throwing the baby out with the bath water. Disinformation is a tactic used by all sides. The fact that the AP story got retracted doesn't mean that every story by every writer in every country for the AP is categorically false.

Have you any comment on the Petreaus question?

Gravatar No winnie, I am saying when I report news, I first make sure I have three other links verifying the original story that DON'T use the original story as their source.

It is the ONLY way not to spread a HUGE story far and wide, just to se the retraction touch maybe a handful of people.

It is called RESPONSIBILITY.

Try it sometimes

Gravatar To me, the previous commenter's phrase:
"Disinformation is a tactic used by all sides..." is a perfect example of disinformation.

It's amazing how quickly their own previously often-quoted and highly-regarded experts are suddenly discredited when they say something the looneyleft doesn't like.

Gravatar I know...and one of the far lef sites NOW is trying to get them to attack Brian Baird.

Against the ar to start with, against every bill ever since, against the surge and goes there and see progress and DARES change his mind because of principle, despite polls and they want to attack him.

Yes, they really have independent thinkers... then they try to destroy them because they don't WANT someone who can think, they want robots.

Gravatar Nope, not robots.

They want COMRADES!

Vodka, anyone?

Gravatar Cheers, Hawk!

Whatever happened to that nice "useful idiots" phrase?

Where's Snooper? I think we need ourselves a little turtle turd talk here.

Gravatar LOLOL Roger!!!!

Gravatar He is making soup out of them NOW Roger.

Gravatar Soup, or Borscht?

Gravatar No comment on the Petreaus question, though. Not surprising really.

Gravatar Winnie, I stop reading anything you had to say when you started quoting sources that have no credibility.

Gravatar Is that the same standard you hold the Faux Noise Machine, Bush administration video news releases, stories planted by the War Department's Office of Special Plans and Republican controlled PR firms and lobbyist messages (like Freedom Watch?)

Gravatar Hell yes, you will see I NEVER quote Fox without adding a supporting liberal news link AND they both are not using the same writer.

Same goes for White House releases. ANYTHING now has to have 3 verifying sources, especially since almost a dozen things printed lately has been retracted.

Gravatar Translation, winnie, she stopped reading you....mmmmmmmmm, bout the first time you started commenting here

Gravatar My hat is off to you for your diligence and consistent standards. Ever consider a career in journalism?

Gravatar Actually Winnie, if you saw my interview with Pete Hegseth, key portions ARE in the Washington Times as well as being able to submit other free lance pieces to them for approval when I feel they are good enough.

Gravatar Has anyone heard from Kaye?

Gravatar Nope. Once we answer their questions and ask a few of our own, they disappear real quick.

Gravatar I noticed. They've probably gone back to their primary sources at the NYT for some more ammo.

Gravatar One last thing before I finish the movie.

Winnie, THIS is why your sources should be checked.

http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.co...reports- on.html

Sad that you would take an anonymous source without any data to back it up before looking to see the military numbers.

Shame on you.

Night everyone.

Gravatar LOL..I just asked on that thread for preparation (H) instructions on the soup...dang, kaye's made herself scarce, hasn't she? although winnie, aka raoul, hasn't by any means! just another one of his aka's from townhall!

Gravatar OK, I followed your link to the gatewaypundit who links to a Canadian blogger using a nom de plume of Winston (!) "Winston is a pen name for a Canada based Pro-America, Pro-Israel Iranian neo-conservative who is seeking regime change in Iran! Winston is also a supporter of the Global War on Terrorism & President Bush's policies in the middle-east. --------- ((On a side note: This weblog is to side with the Neo-con American Right-wing Zionist/Christian Imperialist Conspiracies against the Iranian Mullahocracy. If this is your cup of tea, please enjoy your stay here. If not, please back off & don't waste your time - Thanks))

Fair, balanced and triple sourced?

Further links to the Hanlon/Brookings report, which in a brief looksy caught this bizarre statement:
"NOTE ON THIS GRAPH: According to Lt. Col. Carl Ey, as of March 1, 2007, there were a total of 10,000 U.S. troops deployed in all of
Iraq as a result of the troop increase announced by President Bush in January 2007."

Wow, I've seen other reports that say the US strength is over 100,000 then and at 161,000 now. That's quite the surge!!
