Nope. They have been planning this for a while and might retake Gaza. They left Gaza after they were told that if they did so the rockets would stop. The rockets didn't stop, so they should take Gaza back.

The rockets have been falling on Israel for a number of years. Why is the air assault taking place now ? Does it have anything to do with the up-coming elections in Israel and Kadima trying to stave off electoral defeat ?

If Hamas is mistaken by launching rockets against Israel what guilt did the innocent civilians make to pay for Hamas' mistake? hundreds of innocent Palestinians were killed in the past years. Imagine your brother or your father gets killed for no reason..ofcourse you would want a revenge. I'm not justifying Hamas' actions, I'm sure they are mistaken but i'm also sure that they didn't launch rockets for the sole purpose of killing Israelis, why would they even think about that while they don't have the upper hand and big rockets and airforce and tanks and even nuclear power. It's obvious that they are feeling the obsolute oppression so they would reply back by the rockets. Hundreds of people just get killed randomly and even before that no food or medical supplies for the whole city without any exception and many people actually died. I hope that all of this ends soon..
Civilians are the backers of armies so said Gen. Sherman as he cut a path of destruction through Georgia and S. Carolina in the US Civil War. The duty of a military is to keep your civilians safe and make the enemy scream for mercy (I expect Hamas to start doing that in 2 days as usual).
The civilian population in Gaza have two purposes for Hamas: Human shields for their so-called fighters and propaganda tools.
Hamas cares nothing for the people.
I don't understand how the poor civilans are backing up Hamas, they have no guns or power at all, they probably have some knives that they are not even using to cut their food because Israel has cut all the food supplies. and even IF they are helping "somehow" they don't deserve to be killed.

Even the MSM has mentioned that most of the "people who died" in Gaza are "security men" -- that is, Hamas thugs and enforcers. As usual, Israel has hit specific targets with great accuracy and civilian casualties have been remarkably low, especially considering the high population density.
So I, for one, don't feel badly about that at all.
As usual, the hand-wringers who are now criticizing Israel for defending itself were nowhere to be heard while Hamas was firing thousands of rockets indiscriminately at Israeli towns.
Why now? Since Israel withdrew from Gaza the rocket attacks have not only continued but increased. In just the last few weeks, Hamas violated a ceasefire and the number of rockets increased to at least 200 in just the last week. Israel gave a negotiated truce a chance to work. It didn't work. Time to try something more effective.
I'm sure if you were going to be 1 among the civilian vicitms you would not just feel badly, but you wouldve prayed for your life to be spared.
And if it was your wife or son or brother among the killed civilians you wouldn't say you don't feel badly right? Lives can't be sacrifised just like that.

Parents sit their children in front of the TV and put these shows on for them.
Where do you think they get their so-called fighters from? They start their indoctrination at birth. A steady diet of hatred, of bitterness,of stupidity. I wonder if Palestinians had the same list how would it look like. While hundreds of Palestinians get killed i see under each entry: "one israeli got killed or 2, and 3 were injured". The number of Israreli victims are never to be compared to the Palestinians. State of the art airplanes and U.S. funds aid to kill more than some guns and Katyushas. And hey I hate Hamas too they really suck and what they want is to rule only, they care about nothing else and i care less if they all die in one day. I just can not accept what civilans are facing from both sides. To me there is no difference between an innocent Israeli or Palestinian they are all human beings who deserve to live in peace. What hurts me more is that i cannot do anything from here but to pray for the Israelis and for the Palestinians that one day they will live in total peace.
