"Think you just got a bargain on those rolled back prices? Think again. You may have just helped break unions and dismantle public schools."
And that's supposed to discourage me from shopping at Wal-Mart why?

I liked Robert's comment!!!
I am happy to say that this and every year previous, I have bought ALL of our school supplies at Wallyworld; now that I know that I am helping to dismantle unions AND public schools-this makes it worth it!

Ya know, if the NEA spent more time worrying about the EDUCATION of the children in this country instead of everything else they've got their sticky little fingers in ...
"The company has drained billions from public coffers — money that could otherwise fund schools."
Money - it's always about money isn't it. :-[

I think we need a Wake Up NEA button for our blogs. I don't know how to make those cute little buttons, but I'll see if I can figure something out.

I detest the NEA...and I'm a teacher. Who buys her kids and students supplies at Wal-Mart.

I have to agree with what you said about the NEA, but I disagree about dismantling public schools. I think they need to change, sure. I think they need to be held accountable, sure. But I do think they should exist. I have many students who would not benifit from being homeschooled by their parents (who are in jail, on drugs, alcoholic, etc.)
I'm all for homeschooling. I wish I could homeschool, more than anything...but I know I'm a very important adult in the lives of many of my kids. And the only Christian any of them know. The only adult that some of them ever see as loving, resoponsible, etc.
Just my two cents. I think I know what you were saying...homeschooling is definately a better option for you...you love your kids...you care about them. Some children don't have that at home.

On a more physical, less electronic note, how about a Cafe Press store to sell *real* buttons (and t-shirts, etc.)?

I want to say this out of love and concern, but I sense there may be some rebellion here....
I think we should all be careful at our hearts attitudes. As homeschoolers, we are used to going against the flow, and sometimes could get prideful that our way is best....
Just thought I would mention what I saw in what I've been reading here.....
Blessings and peace

I appreciate your concern carebear. But I am confused about what I or others who join this would be in rebellion from? I am not understanding how it is rebellious to promote a counter campaign to the NEA.
I am open to seeing it. What specifically have you read here that you read as rebellion?

Does anybody know how much Wal-Mart pays annually in property taxes? I know it varies from place to place, but where I live, half of our property taxes fund the local schools.

Susan, Wal-Mart currently pays $113,712 annually in property taxes.
"Generally, about 70 percent of that amount, or $79,598, goes to the school district, Judy said. State law requires any school district that faces a loss of at least $17,500 annually to be notified."
