I saw this the other day and it made me cry. I watched it again just now - and it made me cry again. What a wake up call to moms!

It may be your browser. If you click on the YouTube logo and go straight to the site, you may be able to view it that way.

If you have trouble seeing it, try pasting "Dove - daughters" into the search bar on Youtube.

Until these girls know who they are in Christ Jesus, that they are daugthers of the king of Kings and lord of Lords, that they were made in HIS image, they will struggle, whether in a pub. school, priv. school or home school. They don't need self-esteem, they need Christ-esteem.

What amazes me is how you think the pain is gone...and it's not. I don't know if it will ever be gone this side of heaven. Watching something like this - and it all comes flooding back.

I know exactly what you are saying. Why is it I can't remember my children's names some days, but ask me the names of the kids who picked on me in school and I can remember each one.

Yes blestwithsons, it affects us the rest of our lives in one way or another. Every time I look in the mirror I'm reminded that I'm not pretty enough or thin enough. Somehow my mind blows up my figure to be a few hundred pounds, not 135. We live in a society that is obssessed with the superficial outer shell and test scores. What a wonderful utopia

There's another Dove ad on YouTube that shows a team making a nice-looking but not flawless young woman into a advertising model. It's so important for our daughters--and our sons--to understand how these images of "perfection" are false idols.

"Things won't change until we change them."
Such a very, 'Well, Duh!" comment, yet so very true. Until manufacturers and their advertisers hear us through their bottom line they won't even *listen* to what we have to say.
Make it a point to write, call, and email when advertising campaigns offend. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. There's more than one way to get your money to work for you.

That video brought tears to my eyes. It didn't just bring back memories of childhool hurts - it alos brought out maternal reminders that we mothers are to be a safe haven for our children. Modern day wisdom keeps trying to tell parents that our children (even babies!) need to be away from their parents for their own good. These young ladies know something that today's "experts" have ignored.

And unfortunately that's the message that many in the church are embracing as well. From the time they're toddlers they are enticed to the "fun" place to worhsip and I've seen teachers totally gush over the dolled up girls and the girls who a simply dressed ignored.
I've even seen some major Christian ministries promoting activites where the girls get all dressed up. The emphasis is purity but there is an obvious empahsis on outward appearance. The girls attend in strapless dresses all made up. Some as young as 4. They attend with their fathers which is to their credit, but the emphasis on the outward appearance of the young ladies made me wonder. I'm not down on looking nice, but high school girls dressed in form fitting strapless dresses is not the right message of "purity" for my duaghters.

If I may...a better link to the YouTube "Evolution" video is http://girltalk.blogs.com/
girlta...rted_beaut.html
The reason is that the actual YouTube site shows some very vile comments with extremely crude language on the same page with the video. If you go to the GirlTalk blog (Carolyn Mahaney, for those who would recognize the name), you will get some wonderful God-honoring commentary to go along with the video, which is completely secular. Just click on the picture in the blog post to view the video on the Dove site instead of YouTube.

Having grown up in the actual "Middletown" and now having kids stuck in public school at least for a while, I could cry thinking of their lives. Instead I continue to do my best to put them in God's hands. Thank you for this wonderful post!

I was at my former pastor's house for dinner one night and he and his wife had a bit of an arguement because he was wanting to buy her a mini van and she was having a fit. She said "I won't look cute". Lovely huh? Particularly when there were other people attending this dinner party who did not have running vehicles at all and appearance was last thing on their minds.
This is the same lady who came up to me at church once and I had my Bible, a Rick Warren book, and a designer purse beside me. She said something and I thought she was referencing my book so I started talking about it. She interrupted me and ends up she was referencing my purse and not the book at all...
Yes, it is even in Christian ministries.

This video brought back some painful memories for me as well. The Lord has been showing me that He WAS there with me during those painful, lonely years and when I hurt, He hurt. Why didn't I know that back then? PRaise God I do now and am raising my daughter to know who she is in Christ (and my son too!). I got a lot of attention because I was a cute kid, but even that positive attention didn't fill that Jesus sized hole in my heart that only HE could fill. Without Him and His Word there was no way I could have known how beautiful I truly was in His eyes.....and that's all that matters. That shows in the physical as well.....before Him I looked "hardened" in a way (because I was!) and now I look younger, have a softer appearance, a glow, shining eyes, a brighter smile. I got a Holy Ghost make-over....the best kind!
Oh if only I could share all of this with the girls on this video, but I can't make it heart-knowledge for them. I'll definitely pray laborers across their paths and for them to come to know the truth.
We see Christian girls and women w/these same issues as well. It all boils down to not knowing they are truly daughters of the King and they are jewels to Him! I admit, there are times I struggle w/this as well, but I get back in the Word and spend time w/Him and those feelings of insecurity, jealousy, inferiority, pain, fear or whatever flee quickly!
One of my girlfriends who has struggled w/her obesity for years finally started speaking the Word to herself in the mirror (& BELIEVING it!) "You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are a daughter of the King of kings and Lord of lords. You are precious in His sight." and on and on and she got delivered out of so much bondage....and that's when the weight came off to where she is healthy and energetic again....and can do so much more now for God's Kingdom.....and that's what it's all about.
God bless,
ADC

I thought the exact same thing when I viewed this clip. As I sat here with tears in my eyes my heart went out to those girls because I knew just where they were coming from. I don't know that the pain and hurt of what happened to us will ever go away - I think a part of it will ALWAYS be with us. I believe these experiences we had as children and teens can help us to help the youth and teens we encounter in our lives today.
I agree adc - these girls need "Christ-esteem." In God's eyes we are ALL beautiful - perfectly and intricately made. What these kids need to know is that it's not what MAN sees that is important but what GOD sees.
