Gravatar I love this! Great job pulling that together.

I so enjoy your writing!
Rachel

Gravatar What she means is... I would love to have her on after the campaign is over when it won't help the Republics, I would love to have her on my show simply for the ratings boost, not because I like her or respect her.

Gravatar Oprah is in a tough spot. After all, it's women who comprise Oprah's audience and built her empire. It may not be enough to get women to turn off Oprah, but she loses major credibility with her audience. She's being intellectually dishonest and insulting her audience. Not a smart move from a business perspective.

Gravatar I believe Oprah's ratings began to decline after her first appearance by Obama's side. This above-the-political-fray attitude, now that Sarah Palin has arrived, is waaaay too obvious!

Gravatar No kidding! I guess she is not interested in "fair and balanced".

Just searching Obama on her site is very revealing.

I see a fascinating Fall ahead!

: )

Gravatar "I see a fascinating Fall ahead!"

Totally! Elections 101 just became a half-credit class in my homeschool. I have to do something to justify my obsession.

I actually started this blog because of the Kerry/Edwards campaign in 2004. I was hooked on the blogs back then and was riveted as Dan Rather was trapped in his deception with Bush's National Guard documents, but I never wrote anything. My addiction has only gotten worse now that I have a blog.

Gravatar Todd Palin is charming. They make a great couple.

Gravatar I agree. The way he beamed at her when she was giving her speech was very special. There was no hint of ego or anger, just genuine love and admiration for his wife. I have to say, I'm glad McCain nominated her for the simple reason that it demonstrates just how blessed we are to be families living in America. It was the ultimate contrast to those that think most of us are just "bitter clingers."

Gravatar Spunky, you and some of your readers might be interested in this website.

http://elections.foxnews.com/200...ut-sarah-palin/

It discusses some of the concerns people here have brought up, and I thought it quite good.

For example, re. the police chief firing incident, it claims that "a judge ruled Palin had the authority to fire the chief." This is a piece I had not heard before.

Gravatar I guess I am a bit confused. A quick search of Oprah's website leads to several pages of Obama interviews, etc. The same search for McCain and Palin results in a few articles, some about Obama, and a few about Palin's pregnant daughter. It is Oprah's show and she can do whatever she wants but her line about not allowing her show to be a platform for candidates is ridiculous. She should have said she will not use her show as a platform for candidates she does not support.

Gravatar The show is called OPRAH...it is her show. She can have whomever she wants on it....just as radio shows and podcasts can pick their guests.

I applaud her for her decision to support HER candidate and not let society make her think she is obligated to help the other guy. So much for freedom in a free society.

Gravatar Nice strawman, Tiffany.

Gravatar What I mean by that is that no one even remotely suggested that Oprah shouldn't have the freedom to choose her guests or that she's obligated to interview Palin.

Gravatar The question doesn't seem to be Oprah's freedom to have whatever quests she wants. The question is why would she use her show to promote one candidate and then insist that she doesn't want to use her show "as a platform for any of the candidates".
The hypocrisy is blatant.

Gravatar She's free to use her show any way she pleases. The public reason for her decision not to interview Palin is what is in question. Her answer has put her credibility on the line with her own audience.

Gravatar Not to mention how it demonstrates just utterly small and immature this makes Oprah appear.

Gravatar Here's a link to Oprah's forum, it is clear that her public is not pleased with her at all. I only read the first few pages, but there are 137 pages of comments.

Gravatar She doesn't need a reason. Once again...her show. When viewers start crying foul it does appear as though they think she should be obligated. I don't think Oprah needs to worry about losing viewers and if she does...she didn't need them anyway.

Gravatar Tiffany, you're right. She doesn't need a reason, but she gave one any way. And because she gave such a lame excuse for Palin, she is losing credibility.

She felt compelled to respond to Drudge, if she would have just kept silent no one would be the wiser. Yet, she spoke up and her audience is a bit wiser about Oprah's real attitude toward successful conservative women, many of them the very women who helped built her empire and encourage them to follow their own dreams.
