Thanks for the research and updates on Huckabee, Spunky. I'm surprised to see him still making headway in the GOP primaries, and to hear the media give credit to evangelicals and homeschoolers for his numbers. I've been reading about his betrayals to the conservative cause on many other blogs and conservative newsites. Are these evangelicals concerned about freedom anymore? Were they ever? Or is there a new breed of Christian Liberals...like the Christian Democrats of Germany. Curious.
Julia, as I quoted one homeschooling evangelical in my first post, Huckabee and homeschoolers, "He's a Baptist minister so we don't have to ask where he stands." For many that I've encountered, he's God's annointed and anything that is spoken against him is seen as an "attack."
I've seen that here on this blog. I've been accused of attacking Huckabee and misrepresenting his record, but when I ask how I've done it, I've gotten little response.
Sounds more like a cult than politics.
I've lived among cults, and the herd mentality is strong, especially when the wolf is being exposed. I'm sorry you've had to put up with attacks.
But, I'm very grateful you've shone some light on Huckabee's confidence game.

I didn't take anything personally. I never do, but there is an emotional component to picking a candidate and no one likes to hear negative information about someone they like and have chosen to support even if it is true.
That's why the early endorsement of Huckabee by HSLDA was troubling. The endorsement didn't give homeschoolers much of a chance to really get to know Huckabee and anything after their endorsement was seen as anti-Huckabee or anti-HSLDA. So rather than engage in a substantive discussion on the issue that matters to many of us, instead it was an emotional appeal to just take them at their word. But "authentic" people don't my being challenged because their authenticity shines through, it's those that claim to be "authentic" but aren't that fear scrutiny the most.
