First truffles, and now wild asparagus! They are wonderful-looking, I love the range of colors from jade green to purple. How does wild differ from the domesticated--I've never tried the wild ones? Can't wait to see your recipe for them.

oh, I'm an asparagus hunter. Here in my hometown going through the fields to reap them is a national sport...! My girlfriend has radar eyes for them, and my sister too... when the season comes it's declared hunt.
our best success, this year, was 1.2 kg in less than two hours and three people...!
Now it's almost over but last sunday, coming back from the beach, we found some to put into our evening omelette...! Last year I was able to find some in late October, seasons are becoming crazy!

Those wild asparaguses remind me of an old episode:
1069, Spring. I was stationed with the French Air Force in Nimes, South of France, when we were sent on drill into the nearby "garrigues"/heather land. Once we had reached the spot where we were supposed to manoeuvre our sergeant told us to stop and listen carefully:
-Ok, guys. This is a beautiful day. Now, if you want to take it easy here's the deal: take your helmets off and go pick up all those wild asparaguses for me and you will spend the rest of he afternoon lounging in the sun!"
He did not have to repeat himself, and he certainly ended up with a nice batch.
We realized later that the wily man had had everything well planned when we saw his wife coming in her small Renault (that was supposed to be no man's land...) to pick up our harvest!
To this day I suspect the two of them entertained some brass with wild asapraguses omelette,a specialty of the region!

stop with all of the beautiful photos of asparagus related food! You're making me too hungry . this looks like an amazing little sagra (although I did my own asparagus-picking a few weeks ago in the woods here in Le Marche, where wild asparagus are also in abundance...didn't find nearly as many as that bundle in the picture, though!)!

Alessandro - you're damn lucky that you have not only one, but TWO people who are very good at finding wild asparagus. I admit that it was fustrating, because I'd be sweeping my hands through the fronds and there was nothing to harvest in it. I did, however, see that someone had already been there before me!

Robert-Gilles - wooo-eee, not that was one clever sergeant if I've ever heard of there being one. Loved your recollection of that asparagus-hunting day -- priceless!!

Jackie - I'm holding off on the food til... the next week. This was a great sagra with it being scheduled for a week, but there is a reason for that. One of the event workers said that because an abundant harvest is never a "guarantee" on any day, having an extended sagra only ups the odds for a really really good day which, naturally, translates to more.asparagus.dishes. Yum! We went on a Monday night and were lucky. Apparently the previous Friday wasn't as bountiful in the wild woods!

Welshcakes Limoncello - I still can't get over how many items there were on the menu...certainly wished we could have gone another night to taste what we missed on the first!
foodhoe - if only wild asparagus could be a guaranteed inclusion of a CSA delivery. If only...
joe - so that's why *I* couldn't find any in Gubbio. I should've figured as much and gotten up at the crack of dawn!
marye - I'm glad that I didn't see the asparagus dishes before ordering. It would've been near impossible to decide which and what to choose.
