according to a press release from the Hochtaunus (West Hessen) police department, the youngster pictured above is a German girl named Sophia Marleen Michl who was caught up in the Indian Ocean tsunami on 26 December 2004 and separated from her parents. She was initially treated at a hospital in Phuket, Thailand, and a few days later, after her identity had been determined, she was returned to Germany so she could receive additional medical treatment and be placed in the care of her relatives.

Eek. Watch out if you use a newsreading program - hitting reload also sends your comment again, much to the annoyance of the blog owner ;-)

Oo, yes, I'm so annoyed.

it's the thought that counts even if you are poorly researched :)

You should be pleased you're not so jaded that your first reaction on seeing any kind of appeal is to head for the urban legends reference site. Unfortunately the reason for my jaded-ness is that thanks to email forwards and the like, these things tend to live on long after the mystery has been solved.

Incidentally, how do you get the article text to appear when you hover over a link? are you doing it manually with ALT tags, or is there some automatic feature?

It's a rather nice Javascript thing I found called Nicetitle, which turns title tags into the pop-ups you see. The great thing about it is that, because it uses the title tag, browsers without Javascript will still see it, just without the formatting.

Why didn't you just view source? Lazy?

Couldn't be arsed switching from my RSS reader. Some of us work weekends and are waaaaaaay behind deadline :-)

> work weekends ... behind deadline

Watch your language, you.

Heh. Thanks for the NiceTitle tip - it's very clever. I hope you don't mind that I copied your CSS edits...

Not at all, not at all. You might want to copy my version of the JavaScript file, as well. Your permalinks currently have a huge bloody great three-mile-wide tooltip. Or maybe you like it that way.

Never give up on trying to do the right thing. It is not easy to allways do and you will find afew jokers out there to will critasize your efforts. What counts is you made the effort in good will, And that is what counts. Thank you for your effort.

Well, thanks, Paul, but no, merely meaning well is not good enough. Not only is the road to Hell paved with good intentions, but the Hell is yours and half the good intentions are other people's.

If you're really that interested, here's an RSS feed for the latest comments to this blog. Never miss another pointless argument.

Of course comments are moderated, in a common-sense sort of a way. You don't have to give your email address to post here.

If you know your HTML, you can use <a>, <b>, and <i> tags, and entities, too. If you don't, you can still use them, but with a greater sense of trepidation.

Cheers.
