What?

I know what it is but I have to admit to cheating. ;-) Tis from a penguin?

I think you're probably on the right track, but the words were not uttered by a penguin, no.

It's one of my favourite quotes.

Being unfamiliar with the subject matter I concede that it may not have been the penguin. Tis a cartoon though methinks.

Out of interest, what method of cheating did you use?

I'm very very good with google. ;-)

If you search with that phrase it comes up with a fair number of weblogs. In amongst those was a list of quotations and bad jokes (mainly uncredited) but one had the name opus. Searched again with opus and found bloom county.

I've always been quite good at sifting through search engine results and refining the query to find stuff. Gary used to get me to look stuff up for his magazine stuff.

You are indeed cunning. Here is your worthless prize. It is The Letter Q:

Q

Don't spend it all at once.

Recognised the quote but not the source. That was going to bug me all day until I saw Bloom County up above. But which character? Milo?

It wasn't a regular character.

Ha, I quote this ALL THE TIME. It was a member of an organization that fights for the rights of people with facial hair. He was tired of all of the characterizations of people with facial hair being persecuted and being portrayed as crazed psychos, basically, and he gets all worked up and says that it is just the kind of thing that makes him want to strangle a manatee in the nude, thus proving the stereotype he was trying so hard to fight. :P I LOVE Bloom County.

Hi, Jason. You're right.

Well, that took a while.

Well, had I seen this when you posted it, I would have been there to win The Letter Q, but I just saw it yesterday when I searched for the quote (because I wanted to see if I was alone in using it). It's nice to see other, like-minded Bloom County fans on the web. I think it is one of the most underappreciated comic strips of all time. Mr. Breathed is a genius.

You'll probably be pleased to see, then, that, in the light of this nonsense, references are popping up all over the Web to Scientific Penguinism.
