What?

I didn't think the story could have become sadder until today.

But what, seriously, did everyone expect? After decades of Government devotion to the task of turning the police into pen-pushing bureaucrats, dedicated to detecting and recording crime and disseminating pointless initiatives, while studiously avoiding any hint of prevention, how were these underpaid, under-motivated, and certainly under-trained plods suddenly to turn themselves into Rambo-like crimefighters, swinging into action to cut down the terrorists with ruthless efficiency? The contrast with Israel disarming a suicide bomber (without killing anyone) on the same morning is stark. You don't get to Israel's level of competence in dealing with terror without years of single-minded dedication to the task. Anyone who's flown on El Al knows what good security feels like. But it's not easy, it costs a lot of money, and it doesn't happen overnight. And it has to be your number one priority: no compromises for political correctness, marketability, or electioneering.

Jean Charles De Menezes was not killed on that London train!

It was a cruel, sophisticated and successful hoax, designed to frighten the public and any bombers who are not up for suicide. To make it look realistic the Police told lots of conflicting stories and even faked attempts at engineering a cover-up.

Where he is now, who knows? Witness Protection type scheme probably. Detached house with a walk-in closet, etc. But not in a wooden box.

Jean Charles was not on the train.

You idiot.

So here we are on 15 July 2006: Reported that the police officers involved in killing JC de Menezes on 21 July 2005 will not be prosecuted, except perhaps under the Health and Safety regulations. Give me a break. Got away with murder, again. No wonder the IPCC strung out issuing their report until after the 7/7 bombing commemoration. What a media staged event and what will the government do next year as an encore? When the Crown Prosecution claim “lack of evidence”, it most likely is the unvarnished truth. Face it; individual police officers would never give evidence against each other. So short of handing down four-year sentences for perjury and perverting the course of justice, what can you do? Sure Lord Archer would have a few choice words. Also, if police officers were charged, I can see the entire police force refusing to carry firearms. Now there’s a win-win solution.
Britain is deteriorating by the day, and whether it’s in terminal decline or just going through a bad patch is not that relevant to the individual. Because it will surely get worse before it starts to improve, so how much of your life are you going waste before you emigrate and start to seek your fortune in the colonies?
