It was, as you say, hardly a shock. But then I didn't believe Arafat when he said he "couldn't control the militants" and I didn't believe the PLO when it said it no longer wanted to wipe Israel off the map.
Elder of Ziyon has some stuff from Hamas: like the PLO, everything is "strategy", but the ultimate goal - all of pre-partition Palestine, including Jordan of course - is not, has not ever been, and will not ever be negotiable.
