Very true. Not for nothing is oil called "the devil's excrement": in an economic sense, does Scotland want to be more like Nigeria, or Japan?

The SNP is not the Scottish Nationalist Party but the Scottish National Party. If you cannot check basic facts this questions the import of your contention.
Secondly, far from depending on oil the Scottish economy and assets have always been diverse. The SNP Government is committed to encouraging and expanding that diversity. Oil is one part of it. Yet just as Norway, another diverse economy has harnessed it for the benefit of not just present but future generations so must Scotland. To do anything less is irresponsible.
For anyone to suggest that Scotland could become an undemocratic, corrupt state should spend sometime learning about our nation's history. The development of our legal system, national church, education and local and national institutions is focused on breadth of opinion and separation of powers.

For anyone to suggest that Scotland could become an undemocratic, corrupt state, they need only to have tried living there for the last few years. Scotland's history has a greatness that the place certainly couldn't repeat today.

If you're really that interested, here's an RSS feed for the latest comments to this blog. Never miss another pointless argument.
Of course comments are moderated, in a common-sense sort of a way. You don't have to give your email address to post here.
If you know your HTML, you can use <a>, <b>, and <i> tags, and entities, too. If you don't, you can still use them, but with a greater sense of trepidation.
Cheers.
