An interesting analysis S2. Generally I agree with the top half, but that's because it is a stable genuine liberal democracy.
It's a bit like the Gandhi argument: the only reason he succeeded with his particular tactics was because he was up against a generally (though obviously not at all times and in all places) reasonable adversary - the British Raj.
Had he used these tactics against, say Stalin, we would never have heard of him because he would have been shot at about the age of 15 and that would have been that.
It occurs to me that the same may apply here. The regime may be shooting people because it feels seriously threatened, or alternatively and I'm afraid just as plausibly, it might be shooting people because that's what it does to uppity proles and it really couldn't give a fig.
