Gravatar Individual recognition and reward--in line with strategy and objectives of the entire organization--are significant. However, the role the manager plays every day in contributing to the culture that stimulates engagement is much more important. Providing stimulus after the individual has demonstrated engaged effort has a short half-life. The workplace culture in which engagement is an assumed factor and an appreciated factor serves the end of "employee engagement" more fully.
