Gravatar Good to hear, Steve. I hope the bloggers who jumped on it didn't make things more difficult for you.

Gravatar The best thing is that the conversation continues for now. I don't want to disturb that neither do I want conflict with my boss now that he has agreed to that. I think the bloggers who jumped on the subject helped. What interested me the most was the academics who thought I was wrong, that adult students need protection from having their opinions put on the Internet.
This is going to be a bumpy road and we have just started this journey. I see this as a shot across the bow. I learned from this.
This started some great conversations.

Gravatar Hey Steve,

I've been listening to your casts here in Australia for a while now, but recently lost my job as a 'courseware designer' for blogging and so have not had the broadband luxury to listen anymore.

I was fired for this blog and and this wiki!

I was still within a 6 month probation period and my boss brought forward the period report to recommend that I be fired based on "inappropriate publishing". The mystery of it is that only one month before I sat my mid probation review and all was rosey and my blogging etc was known about then too. One month later this decision was fast tracked in a big way with no negotiation what so ever!

I didn't interview students, but I did express my views about learning management systems and various other things, and at times those views contradicted the directions of the Uni I was working for.

There's no doubt in my mind that my blogging, and wiki-ing were very beneficial to my work, my net work and our professional development, not to mention the points of freedom you originally articulated. But my blogging obviously threatened the wrong people.

I'm sorry to hear of shots in your direction also, but glad to see they "went over the bow". I expect there will be more of a backlash as these approaches we take to communication become more well known.
