Hybrids not only do not save gas, they may not be good for the environment either. Once the disposal of large number of batteries is considered, there is plenty of room for acid leaks, environmental damage and corrosive release.

Batteries are typically not disposed of, but are recycled. It is proven that hybrids save gas, but not necessarily money. A veggie powered VW TDI does both.
