Gravatar Tim, I wish that you were right and that the world would move towards the lifestyle of 100 years ago. However, the Industrial Revolution, which started with burning of fossil fuels to create energy, came well before 1900. I do agree with you about educating our kids about where we've been and where we're going, but you're not going to convince the Chinese or the Indians that they should forget about pursuing the best possible, comfortable lives for their children while they watch us cosume 1/4 to 1/3 of the world's energy. They're where we were 100 years ago. They were starving up until recently and they probably feel like it's their turn to make the best of their lives and build their families' future from fossil fuels. We Americans tend to think only about ourselves even when it comes to global issues. While we should definitely show environmental leadership, we should also keep in mind that we may not be the key to reversing the CO2 build up in the next 50 years.
