Depends on the plants. My potatoes are 1' apart. The Square foot Gardening book (http://tinyurl.com/24gyqh) explains the dimensions of each type of plant.

Have you ever had trouble with there not being enough ground to support the plants either for growth or when you pick them?

Also, is your yield pretty consistent with what the author of the book was receiving?

I already planted my garden for the year, but I think I will give this square-foot approrach a try next year.

Steve , good luck with the listeroid. I own a 3.5hp petter and a 195 changfa. the petter is on the blink but the changfa runs fine. I also built two 4x4 raised beds and planted peppers and tomatoes. My first try at gardening, hope I do ok. By the way what happened to the detroit?

Steve I suggest you try using the Mittleider measurements for your growboxes next year. 3x3 works well but 18 inches wide by XX works even better. It allows the plants some elbow room so they get better light and air circulation. Steve
