As a systems engineer, I can appreciate working on a cradle-to-grave project, but this certainly seems to be an extreme. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Sounds like a great idea. Similar to nutrition labels on foods. It will take some money to implement, but I don't know if it will be such a bear once the whole supply chain is in step. The real question is whether consumers are going to adjust their habits based on these numbers. I am a big proponent of green products competing on their own merit rather than relying on compassion from the general public.

I believe this system has been in use in Canada for some time now. Refrigerators, stoves, etc. all have a yearly wattage usage sticker located on the machine.
