Gravatar Mr. Reed is correct, as a retired USN Machinist's Mate, I can tell you that we VERY SELDOM brought new oil aboard ship. It was cleaned in this manner almost constantly and so long as it was never overheated, it could be used indefinitly without breakdown. Another tool we used was a settling tank. It was warmed to about 150*F and water and solids settled to the bottom. The old oil was then run through the purifier and put back into service, while the garbage that settled out was disposed of. I would bet that could be done by dumping your vegetable oil into a black-painted drum and leaving it set in the sun. That's how I heat my shower water in the summer, and it gets pretty hot.
