I use a3.5 minipetter to help charge my batteries. It is belted to a car alternator. The only problem I have had with it is its tends to smoke moderatly.

Many over the road long-haul trucking companies are using rechargeable batteries to reduce idling. A bank of rechargeable batteries are placed under the sleeper bunk and are charged while the diesel engine is active in-road. When the trucker stops for his or her mandatory rest period the engine can be shut down while power from the batteries runs either the heat or the air conditioning. Therefore , keeping the driver comfortable, saving fuel and reducing diesel exhaust emissions.
