Gravatar I hope she does to STB - I heard on the radio this morning that they have told her if she does not stop and leave by Thursday that they will consider her a threat to GW and have her arrested. Now tell me this, how is wanting to know from our commander and chief why our sons and daughters are dying in iraq or coming home forever changed - how is that a threat? A threat because the people are starting to realize that this war was all a crock. Some of us have known this all along. Have a great day - don't get wet as I hear we are to have some rain today - although just because it rains on my house doesn't mean it will rain on yours, that is Houston. Peace!!

Gravatar La Mexicana is on the corner of Fairview and Montrose. If you haven't been, you should, the food is great!!! I work on the 44th floor of the building I am in so we have an excellent view of this storm passing through. Stay dry....

Gravatar The Shrub...lol. Thanks for the laugh and for the comment on my blog this morning.

What exactly is "the prize" again? I really seem to have forgotten.

Gravatar Tears are good, shows you feel. Feeling is good, even though you are getting OLD. LOL

STB if you or anyone comes across an address to send Cindy a donation to help with her expenses, POST IT PLEASE.

Gravatar I hear ya. AOL keeps updating their page...it goes something like:

9:01am Shuttle Lands
9:02am Click here to see how it landed
9:03am Now that it's landed, what's next?
9:04am Will we have the same problems we did this time the next time?
9:05am watch them pick their nose as they come off the shuttle

And so on. And I only used 9 because unlike you, I wasn't able to watch it land LOL. Guessing the time..I know I am totally off, but you get my example!

I am writing about this on my blog, it's too crazy not to!

Gravatar I couldn't watch. Too many white flashes in recent memory--I couldn't bear the possibility. My son, though, was riveted to the screen. He's young still; to him, they're superhumans--visitors from outerspace, dropping in for another while.

I heard they're planning on arresting her, too. Excuse being that that scary-ass automaton, Condie Rice, and Rumsfeld (about whom no earthly invective will suffice) are driving through on Thursday, and these middle-aged women with cardboard signs pose a risk.

Sort of reminds me of the alarming risk posed by all those terrorists crossing into the US illegally and taking sub-minimum-wage jobs...

Gravatar Inger...

Well said!

STB

Gravatar The space program has held a special place in my heart from near it's beginning.   A lifelong family friend worked for NASA from pre-Mercury until his retirement just a few years ago.   He was "the voice of NASA" for a while and headed public relations out of Houston.  He traveled around the world with the astronauts as they made personal appearances and promised them never to write a  book.  He did assist Apollo 13 flight director Gene Kranz with "Failure is Not an Option"  and was kind enough to send me an autographed copy... adding a personal note of his own.  My oldest daughter wanted so badly to be an astronaut our friend put her on the mailing list.   She received a press kit before every flight and could tell you at any given moment exactly what those astronauts were doing on that mission.

He also provided us with passes to the Cape to watch flights.  We went to many flights but Sally Ride's (first woman to orbit Earth) shuttle was the most memorable for me.  Just a few miles from the pad  we waited with anxious anticipation  for the pre-dawn launch.  As the countdown clock ticked off the final seconds,  the ground began to rumble under our feet as steam and billows of white smoke rose from the giant engines.  Finally the rocket's flames lit up the morning as Challenger slowly crept skyward.  We watched in awe until it was a mere dot of light high in the heavens.  Little did we know the fate of Challenger three years later.

Thankfully the Discovery crew have returned home safe and sound.

Gravatar it is so okay to cry, and i don't think it has anything to do with age...especially cuz these were joyful tears, and not sad tears...i think everyone was a little aprehensive about the landing this time in light of the last one...i'm happy they're all back safe and sound...peace...

Gravatar You're not getting old. You have a soft heart instead of a rock-hard heart. Soft hearts are a good thing.

I didn't watch it... I spaced (hah-hah!) about when exactly they were coming in. But when I found out they landed safely, I thanked God! I was worried about the crew.

It's important that we don't become blase about space travel. It's not safe. It's going to take alot more than we've already done to make it safe. And even then, will it be safer than, say, driving on the highway? Asteroids or small, fast-moving particles don't signal!!!
:P

I was born the year we set foot on the moon. Even so, it's not old-hat to me. I am fully aware of what an accomplishment this is.

I've always wanted to go to Mars... but not until it's "safe". Blasted Ray Bradbury... totally got me hooked on the idea.

Scuba keeps me sane. It's as close as I'll probably get to Mars in my lifetime. And talk about a lesson in being in an "inhospitable environment"!

Gravatar People my age dont care about a final frontier we are to busy discovering ourselves.. Soryr I couldnt share your joy I'm glad they landed safely though, and if MSN doesnt cover her story often enough I hope she sticks a boot up there bums too..

Gravatar I too, hope that Cindy Sheehan takes her protest to Washington.. and I hope that other mothers, fathers siblings and friends join her..

If they do arrest her, I hope someone takes her place.. he is too blase about about his lies, his agenda and the death and destruction that is left behind.

The energy bill? How could we let it happen? How do we stop it?

Can I wake up now? This is just a bad dream right? Can I wake and find Bill still in office and all of my friends ( and myself ) still gainfully employed? ( gainfully being the operative word here)

Gravatar The Energy Bill is such a joke. The part about extending daylight saving time is a bigger joke. Doesn't the amount of daylight and dark remain the same no matter what time it says on the clock? Never mind the inconvenience that we'll all have manually changing electronic devices that are currently programed to change automatically. What about the kids standing in the dark waiting for school busses? Ya think "W" thought about any of that before he autographed the stupid thing?

Meanwhile, Cindy stands in a ditch outside the vacation complex and all she wants is to get some answers about why her child died in a a war created by the vacationer. Priorities Mr. President, priorities.

PS: Please send some Zip east will you? I could use some today.

Gravatar aww. that is so sweet. i have been obsessed with media coverage about this mission and i am so glad they made it back alive yet it still boggles my mind how they do what they do.
