I still love writing letters. I think it's because when I get one - because they are so rare nowadays - it's almost like receiving a present. On some level, I feel that *high* from other forms of communication, too - text messages, phone calls, blog comments, what have you... it's always nice to know that people are there!

I miss the process of letter writing too.
More than that, I miss the Dear Dears I wrote to who wrote back.

when i started writing letters i was very small, 6 or 7 years old, but i did it for the selfish reason -- i wanted one back!! it is a sad thing that in this day and age the art of letter writing is dying...but from the ashes comes a phoenix, which is the art of blogging...i still send real birthday cards, tho,...i would never ever send an e-card without first sending a hand-written note in a card...so here's to the art of blogging, long may she reign =)

I always knew, deep in my blogger heart, that you were the tasteful kind of guy who would have monogrammed stationery from Tiffany's.
Can I tell you how much I love stationery and all of the accouterments. I have drawers full of it, which sadly never gets much use these days.
I am a big card sender. I send cards for any and all occasions.
If I send you my address will you write me a letter?
If I ask real nice?
Okay, Zippy, what's TGFB? I give up...
B.

STB - I have been and still am a letter writer. My Grandmother still writes me and I feel that therefore is the only way I should reply to her. She has email and we correspond that way as well, but I love receiving letters from her. It makes me feel special and I enjoy returning that favor to her as well. I keep all kinds of stationery, have drawers full of it as well. No Tiffany though - I bet it is some pretty good stuff. As for your handwriting, honey, I work for attorneys and next to doctors they are known for their awful writing and I do pretty well. I am sure yours would be an easy read, just don't try and use real big fancy words the guys I work for - I hate looking up stuff in the dictionary when the spell check can't fix it!!! Have a great weekend STB - I hear our weather is actually going to be a little cooler - yeah right!!!

You remind me of me...I've always loved writing letters too. Long before computers I had penpals (some from other states, some from other countries) and I'd write letters to celebrities or companies. Email came and I do miss getting the actual letter in the mail. Like you I hate it when I email someone and they completely ignore a question I've asked..!! My mother asked me about blogs recently "Well is it like email?" she asked. She may never figure it out--she's got an aversion to the computer and can't remember anything I teach her to do with it. (I've taught her to cut and paste three times now)!!

Tiffanys, I would expect nothing less from you doll! I used to write letters to Larry's mom when she lived in Chicago and Ashley was a little baby. I would write them "from" Ashley, in childlike handwriting with mistakes on purpose. She loved them and would write back to Ashley.
She hated being so far away from her, they finally did move back, into the same apartment complex as us LOL That was a little too close!

i love(d) writing letters, all my life. and stationary, and those wax seal-thingies for the back of the envelope, with yout initial? ...nice topic, stb.
it reminds me of the "letters segment" on letterman, when paul plays the special "letters" song... yes, i am very strange.
happy weekend.

STB, you are so much better than I!
I am so BAD at "real" letters.
And when email came on the scene, I realize I lost contact with all my friends who didn't have email, or were slow to get it! Yeesh. :P
I would occasionally call them, but...
For me, snail-mail is for bills.

but all is not lost.. I have outlook express and I make stationary ..
it is of course not the same, but still..
I like phones too.. voices matter..

Thank you for the insight. I'd never really thought about keeping a blog in this light (I started mine because, well, I needed some outlet for the absolutely dada things that were happening at my job, now two years in the past) but once you put it out there it sure makes sense.
I miss letter writing. I miss the heaviness of the pen in my hand and the sound of its nib moving across paper; the click of keys is nice but it and messing with my blog's style sheet won't ever replace the feel of good, high rag content stationary between my fingers.
Hope you're having a fabulous weekend!

I love writing letters. It doesn't matter whether by long hand or by email. I like writing letters better than receiving letters. I have written more romantic letters than anything but have never received one single love letter back--not the deep down, wrenching, touching make me want to jump out of my skin kind. Well, I got to your blog by Stephen's blog...so will try to revisit every once in a while. Have a good week. Anna
