About 25 years ago my dad had the opportunity to buy stock in a new company who got it's start pushing small appliances on local radio.
The company was planning on making a move to TV. No way he was going to invest any money in something like that! The company was HSN.
I like these glimpses into your life, I don't think I've ever watched one of these shows, but those sheets were a good deal.

Except, I hate to fly. And I admit it, I bought the makeup. I adore Smashbox! Did you know that the guy that started Smashbox is Max Factor's grandson? How cool is that? I can just feel the old Hollywood glamour whenever I use it.

Love it!! I watch these shows sometimes when I cannot sleep and yes, I confess I have purchased Signature A Club make up from HSN - That woman can put some make up on people. She shows them looking so bad and then in just a few quick stokes - beautiful. Had to have it. Good deal. Glad to know someone else who has purchased - I always wondered who else besides me was buying stuff from TV.
I love to watch just to see how long they can talk about an item..even if i don't want the item i am mesmerized by the talking they can do about something for so long. When I was a mom for the first time years ago- i would turn on QVC during the middle of the night baby feedings, because there were always people awake and talking cheerily!!
I have a friend who lives in West Chester PA and he has even done framing for QVC's framed art in the background.
I don't watch HSN because they are located here, but they do have a store where you can get things even cheaper than on TV!
I am a shopper and with me its an art. I shop the better stores but I never, never, never pay full price. I shop the sales and if I find something I like at 30% off, I count the number of pieces in my size, color and style. Then I estimate how many will sell and how many will be available at the next markdown! Then at 50% off, it there's still enough of the item I'm "shopping", I wait for the 70% off sale.
Works for me!
not a tv shopper...nj is the land of shopping malls so i don't feel the need...and even so i'm not a mall chick either...more of a tj maxx kinda gal...also i'm in sales and work with women just like lisa robertson and shannon smith, so i don't need to watch them on tv...i've got the real life versions...my cable company has the cable programmed so that when you turn on your tv qvc is automatically on, no matter what channel the tv is set to...if i can't find the remote i end up watching it...but i've never bought anything...

I have never purchased anything on TV but I enjoy watching the shopping networks.
I purchased VHS's of the original Star Wars trilogy on HSN. The gal I talked to on the phone didn't know how to tell if the tapes where widescreen or not, so I ended up with the non-widescreen version. :P
[Yes, of course, I now have the DVD's of the original trilogy, and of the new trilogy as well.

Books are the worst. I think I purchase them faster than I can read them. :P Movies come in second, and CD's come in third, although the iTunes store has ironically made my music purchasing a little more reasonable.
I've learned to research shoes online, but only purchase them in the stores after I locate the style I want.
I currently have a bunch of shoes in my closet that I bought online, and that aren't comfortable to wear. :P Oops.
I like to watch the shopping channels sometimes just to see the sparkly jewelry. But I almost always buy cheap jewelry at the drug store.
So, STB, how bad are you when it comes to online shopping?

Oh how funny! I'd have pegged you for an ebay guy. I used to sell to QVC--health books, cookbooks--and the whole setup is amazing. Haven't yet shopped from them; I'm too compulsive to flirt with these outlets. But I get a kick out of your personal relationships with the hosts!

heehee - the other day I passed by a homeshopping network, and thought it might be fun to buy something off of there. maybe now i will! although, i have an ebay/amazon/etc problem, so perhaps i shouldn't...
my confession - i actually contemplated explaining the sales tax phenomenon. ugh. you like hsc, i like taxes -- clearly, you're fine.
I haven't watched those stations for years... I used to watch and then get totally stressed out as the time would run down at the bottom. It could be for some item totally useless to me, yet I felt this incredible need to call and buy one before time ran out... too much stress for me...lol

QVC is located not too far from here. i have some friends who work for them as well. I get to hear the funny inside stories, for example, of how Joan Rivers uses Visine round the clock because her eyelids can barely shut.
