What you say is sad and true. We are way too far in debt to be the richest country in the world.
Nobody should believe in pensions anymore. At least not in the USA.

if you don't mind... i'll give you a theological reason:
in the lord's prayer we say "give us this day our daily bread." so why is it that some people get more bread than others? we are selfish and don't know how to share.
we are a poor country because we are a selfish country.

Every time I read about cutting taxes, I think I'm going out of my mind......
What in the world are we thinking?
But then again, when the majority of Americans are up to their eyes in debt and no concern about how they are gonna pay those debts, when less than 5 percent of Americans have savings accounts, it just all goes with the flow.....
Live for today.... is a very scary thought!

I have to dispute dondon009's figures. The national spending rate is a NEGATIVE HALF PERCENT. Look it up.

In a few years China will be buying all the overseas oil that we buy now, and everyone else's as well; there won't be a thing we can do about it because they'll be the financial powerhouse as well...
Of course, we'll end up being the 3rd world then, or 2nd at any rate!
