how do you do it, though?? i'm with ya in theory but i just don't know how to 'embrace death' when it actually happens.

what an eloquent post...i could listen to you "speak" for days...i love the way you think...
i am not afraid of death...whenever i say this it tends to scare people...they think i am suicidal or something...but really, for me, my feelings of loss when a death occurs are usually very selfish - i want that person (or animal, even) to be here as long as i am, to always be with me...
my thoughts are that if you;re afraid of dying, then you're afraid to live as well...
thanks for this, butler...
peace...

you said some really great stuff here, butler. i loved it, and felt it.
in younger years, death was so frightening to me. i think a lot of it may have been the catholicism crammed down my tiny throat.
as i age, i get more and more comfy with the end of the journey. in fact, it starts to make perfect sense. the idea of a beginning and an end-to every living thing.
thanks for your thoughts, as always.

nice post butler.
i believe that the topic of dying should be taught in school. children need to understand that it is a part of life, and to be taught how to help themselves and all involved deal with it.
nothing will become easier or more accepted if it is not discussed.

you know, sal, when i was in school, we did have a death and dying section of health class. i don't know what would have happened otherwise, but it definitely helped me understand how to deal with death - they covered the process of grief (denial, anger, bla bla bla), what to write in a condolence card, what to say, etc. I think it was 8th grade. I never really thought that it was abnormal, but I'm sure glad they did it!

Hmmm... Being one who solidly believes there are no coincidences, your post has set me to wondering just what message the Universe is sending me - since your post is the second instance in as many days of me being asked to ponder or comment on death and dying. No worries - my beliefs in this area are very similar to yours. I actually believe in conscious departure, whenever possible. This involves not only self preparation - but also helping to prepare those who will be "left behind", so to speak. Great post STB!
