Add Teddy Roosevelt to the list - he must be turning over in his grave. Or - wishing it was located in some other country!
I'm glad you posted this one as I thought better of it - sometimes I feel I might come over as anti-American. This whole affair about legitimizing wholly unacceptable acts as justifiable in the interests of 'national security' or 'war on terror'. It reminds me of a documentary I watched a few nights ago about how Golda Meir justified eradicating half of the PLO in revenge for the Munich attack in the same vain (most of whom had absolutely no connection with the incident).
I must say also that I am amazed that the phone tapping has caused so much alarm when CIA torture camps in Europe (supported by the UK government) have just about caused a ripple!
Oh - and I could go on and on - sorry. And by no means is it the USA on it's own!
I'm with Blogzie; not only will we never recover, but my grandchildren's grandchildren will be paying for both the political and environmental folly being wreaked upon our planet!
That last was me, btw...very tired and forgot I hadn't signed in yet!

I enjoyed reading your insights. Living in a 'young' democracy (South Africa) where communists are part of the government, we define ourselves daily. I believe that many have, unfortunately, lost faith in the American brand of Democracy as promoted by Pres. Bush. Seems he ships 'democracy' off to other countries at the expense of human lives.
