I hate that. When I was younger my grandmother sent me a check for some miniscule amount for my birthday. Some friends (HA!) of mine took it and added a zero to the amount. My grandmother never mentioned it to me...I had to hear about it from my dad, who was "very disappointed". We had to go to the bank so I could prove that I didn't do it. So much for parental trust.
Glad you were able to cancel the account before something bad happened.

That is just weird that someone would even do that, because you knew all that were there right? And when the check cleared you could get a copy of it, and see the handwriting!

oh man, that blows! What the hell is wrong with people? Have you narrowed it down to who you think did it? It's a shame to loose a friend over something stupid. I could never even think of doing that, let alone have the balls to do it!
Similiar situation happened to me last week. I had ordered some scrapbook supplies, and usually only deal with companies that take paypal. This one did not, and I really wanted the order. So idiot me, entered my debit card number. Well low and behold, on Friday I checked my account online, and some company by the name of CARDQUERY.COM
OOPS, I hit the wrong button. Anyway, Cardquery.com is apparently some bogus company, and yes they got me for quite a bit of money. Thank goodness the bank was able to cancel my card and they will hopefully credit my account. I have learned my lesson.
What is wrong with people? Oh and by the way, it wasn't a friend of mine. It was friend of a friend. Clint didn't like her anyways and said she wasn't welcome back even before this stuff happened. She is a bit weird. When I talked to our mutual friend this morning, she was so apologetic. I told her not her fault and that I didn't know for 100% but just to be cautious.
Jesus!! That's terrible that you have people over to your own home, and you get shit stolen. Glad you figured it out, tho, and warned the mutual friend who brought her in the first place.

Glad you caught it before someone was able to do any damage. Checks aren't carefully looked at by those who cash them to make them that secure when stolen. Happened to my fil at his office once...can you believe the thief spelled his name WRONG on the signature & STILL made off with money???
