As for #2: I send homemade goodies to Iraq all the time, but only to Soldiers, Marines that I KNOW.
When sending to those from anysoldier.com it is frowned upon.

I bake them, put them in atleast 2 baggies, freeze them solid, wrap them in shopping bags, paper and bubble wrap, then make sure they're the last thing packed in the box. No problemos yet (Saudi, Kuwait, Litter Box Lotto Location of present). Do NOT put 'homemade' cookies on the Customs form. Only put cookies or snackfoods. The troops will get them that way, the PO will be none the wiser, and you'll save some moolah over a possible fine.
You're welcome whenever you want. Lorlie might be a better bet to get you at the airport though, she's closer. But I've got the US truck from hell to scare Italians with, up to you! I'll even teach you to make tortillas.
