LOL!!! I know EXACTLY what you mean. When I was younger, I lipread pretty well, but the kids at that age didn't really know that it's lipread differently between Deaf and Death. So, I've had 5 or 6 kids come up to me at camp (rumors spread like a wildfire), saying, "Are you Death?". I would look at them and say, "Am I dead? I am walking with you. I am breathing. I'm not DEATH! I'm DEAF. Leave me alone." They looked at me very weird. Then it wasn't until much later that I realized what they said. It *sounded* like death, but that was pre-ci. I would go up to Mommy and say, "Mommy, the kids are calling me death." Yeah, I'm sure she was thrilled with name callings.
