Gravatar Hi Jennifer,
This is awesome! What a great result so far.

Please delete my last comment, my link was not working,

It's just two years since my illness that necessitated the ototoxic antibiotics’ which eventually Deafened me totally, just 18 months ago so my experience with implants is so different when compared to my previous perfect hearing. Just now, I’m bi-lateral again and can say I’m beginning to love them and becoming thankful for this miracle afforded me.

During the past year some of my closest friends told me my speech was funny, sub-consciously my speech experience was becoming directly proportional to my failing implant and my respectively compromised ‘listening’ experience.

But it’s on the up & up. An unexpected bonus has been with FM transmitter (Phonak Smartlink SX & Phonak Microlink neck loop.) I can now tell the difference between my wife and three young teen agers! Apparently I almost immediately started to sound like my old self again when the FM receiver was in the middle of the room. I can only assume that is repetitive to the FM microphone being removed from right by my head where I have felt my voice was many times louder than others. I can even participate in relaxed conversation. The devise is awesome in very noisy environments’ such as a restaurant.

Warm regards
Colin

Gravatar Jen,

I'll never forget the first time I met you. You have had an incredible journey with ups and downs but you've PERSEVERED and have come a long way! I'm so proud of you and happy for you!

Can't wait to see you on Saturday!

Hugs! Laurie

Gravatar I have had people tell me the same thing. Its amazing what the CI can do that the HA didn't. With the HA, people thought I was from some Eastern Europe country. Now, they think I am from "Broogin" because I don't sound so "Buffahlow"ish!

Gravatar Hi Jen,

It's me Bobbi from hearing journey. I just read this post and I had to reply. My hubby and my friends have noticed the same thing with me. Jay said that I had a very prominent "deaf accent" before my CI. The weird thing is that when I take my CI's off or if my batteries die that shortly thereafter I get my deaf accent back. It's kinda weird. But in the same sense it is awesome cause people can understand me ALOT better. It's all the just simply AMAZING!!!!!

Gravatar Wonderful post Jennifer. My family held back on telling me that my speech was changing before I got my first implant. When they wanted to tell me that it was getting better then they had to admit that it had started to change. It is probably a good thing they held back as I think I might have withdrawn more and cut back on talking. As it is now, when I'm off the air, I prefer not to speak. Oh, we are so blessed to have this technology. Thank you for sharing.
