Gravatar Wow! Sounds like you have a great teacher and a wonderful class. I wish I could join you! I've taken two sign language classes and you are right when you say it is one of those use it or lose it things. We were taught straight from a book and practiced on each other in class but never really learned the history or anything. I still have my books (*blowing dust off covers*) but need more than just that.

Glad you had a nice birthday and that you are healing nicely!

Hugs, Laurie

Gravatar oh wow, have fun!!! I took level 1 last year and am starting level 2 next week. I am very excited!

Gravatar Oh, I'm so excited for you!

Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

Gravatar They have a GREAT sign language program at Nashville State Community College. I've actually thought about starting that program, while I wait on Casey on Thursday nights.

Gravatar Happy belated birthday, Jennifer! What a great present. I always wanted to take an official sign class.

So glad your healing is progressing so nicely...that's fantastic!!

Gravatar Thanks for sharing. I just start to learn ASL recently, am hard of hearing. I can sign some simple words now. I joined a great deaf daing site, deafloving.com, and met some good deaf/HOH friends over there. They help me to learn ASL.

And, Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

Gravatar Gosh--this is GREAT! I remember last year when you were disappointed that the class was on the wrong night, and now you found one and you like the teacher! It sounds perfect for you, and I bet you'll pick it up fast!
Smiles,
Kim

Gravatar so glad you are doing so well,
all God's blessings on you and your family

Gravatar Hi Jennifer!

Happy 37th last week! Amanda had her surgery, then her birthday then her activation. So far so good for her. Hoping the same for you!

September 24th is only 6 days from now! We're all giving it our all to send positive thoughts, prayers, and well wishes your way for a successful activation! And I'm thrilled that the pain is gone!

I wish everyone taking sign language or wanting to lived in my area of Southern California. I'm teaching an ASL class one night a week and also tutoring a whole family whose 82 year old matriarch is going deaf.

I looked at your link for the text book. I hadn't Interesting tidbit..even before the first edition came out Lou Fant authored a book called AMESLAN. Then he was working on the manuscript for a conversational ASL book. I was a student in his class when he was teaching from the draft of that book. He was a fantastic teacher and a great guy. One other interesting note is that he died on June 11, 2001, the same day as my mom.

Glad you have a great ASL class!

Jennifer
