I'm feeling a little harsh today, but I'll attempt to answer this rhetorical question gently.
Why? Because America is afraid to put him there. Oh, maybe not you, or your friends, or those who murmur sweet agreements around the water cooler...But everybody else who bought into a myth rapidly vanishing in the rear view mirror is.
They want Dick to just take his millions and go away quietly, or wish himself into the cornfield.
They want to pretend that the last 40 years haven't been a filthy deception rubbed into their faces...A stew of malfeasance and nepotism wrapped in a big red white and blue bow of ideology and sold to the consumer as prudent governance that would never dream of destabilizing or destroying foreign nations, unless of course it was absolutely necessary...And never mind how that decision was arrived at - just keep pumping the gas, son.
Dick Cheney isn't afraid to lie. After all, it's all he has...And apparently he has the capacity to pass prevarication on as a genetic trait.
Why, he'll shoot his lies right into your face and won't even flinch from the recoil. That's how he rolls.
But America doesn't want to know. It prefers to maintain the fiction rather than admit that everything they were ever taught or believed about their homeland might have been an untruth designed to keep them in line.
