When the State can rule that it has dominion over a woman's body, watch out. Either a woman has sovereignty over her own body or she does not, whether I or anyone else approve or disapprove of her choice. You don't have to like the choice made: it is none of your business (see, small government is good if you get to destroy the economy or the air or the treasury, but it must be enlarged to smack down the great menace of The Body).
Ted Kennedy has a brain tumor, and will probably die from it. He is 76 years old. He is such a horrible human being that the will of the people of Massachusetts has been to elect him to the Senate every six years since 1962. I would take Ted Kennedy, a man who is not perfect, over those who would play to our worst fears, who would manipulate us to "kill, kill, kill" the enemy of their choosing, over the robber barons and war profiteers, over the entire GOP: to be patriots does not mean to become sadistic bullies who slash and burn anybody who actually uses their Constitutional rights to peaceably assemble, to present a redress of grievances to the government, to not force one set of theocratic beliefs above all others.
Ted Kennedy, in another very serious hour of his life (he being a mortal like the rest of us) will not be sullied by the lowest common denominator but rather elevated by his service to his country, his fealty to his friends, his decency and his humanity.
We all die, but it seems a lesser number truly learn to love while living. I count him in the group that learned to love beyond the narrow margins of politics and faith. He lives this very day, so no eulogies please. His flame has not yet gone out. When his light does go out, know that America's flame burned the brighter because of him.

Yeah, ya knew it was coming. Some conservatives have the normal human feelings, of course, but one of the defining features of movement conservativism isn't just the lack of compassion, but a belligerent attack on compassion (Graeme Frost being one of the most glaring examples). Compassion, when shown at all, only goes to conservatives or people who further conservative causes, and it's yanked the moment those people don't adhere to the party line.
The definition of a tool: one who can't help but construct a political agenda around EVERYTHING, regardless of the relevence, the selfishness, or the tact. Congrats kit. You win the big-penis award because yours is the only one on the table. Enjoy your victory.
