Gravatar So, the building of mosques in the U.S. is what is leading to all the rampant homosexuality? That's a new one.

Gravatar I'm with Vik-Thor and Chertoff. My gut feeling is that the Rapture is imminent.

Harriet Miers was apparently already raptured this morning.

Gravatar Hindus are pagan? Who knew? I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that next to Islam and Hinduism, Christianity is a complete minority religion--especially when you exclude all the people someone like Smith would not consider Christian--the closeted gays, the pro-choicers, and, I'm betting, the Mormons and Catholics.

Incidentally, I would also not mind if the Rapture came tomorrow. I hope I can have Vik-Thor's stuff. (Hey! Thor? Isn't He a pagan God? I smell a troll.)

Gravatar Vik-Thor probably just has empty bags of Cheetos, a floor of dirty laundry and a stash of nudie mags. There are plenty of rich Christians who have much better stuff.

Gravatar Words fail me. The idea that supposedly adult members of the Senate would heckle a Hindu cleric is revolting. Have they no idea of class and appropriate behavior? I wouldn't want to insult wolves or bears or other animal by asking if these people were raised by [name of animal] because they proved today that they are not civilized.

Gravatar Fuck me. Hecklers? Really? Really? What the hell is this, the Chuckle Hut?

I'm starting a write-in campaign to my local newspapers now to refer to the Senate as "The World's Most Deliberative Body" only in quotes and with a winky emoticon attached, preferably in a humorous font. That's just fucking lame.

Gravatar Back in the day, Muslims and Jews used to make fun of Christians and point out that they aren't really monotheists, since they have three deities.

Doesn't really leave Christianity much room to talk smack about other polytheistic religions.

Gravatar 3=1. It's only illogical to the heathen mind. Christian math!

Gravatar Words fail me. The idea that supposedly adult members of the Senate would heckle a Hindu cleric is revolting.

Do we know that it was senators doing the heckling? It could have been audience members, up in the gallery.

It's disgusting either way, but you're right--it is worse if it was senators.

Gravatar Yeah, it was visitors, not senators; this story gives their names.

Gravatar Twenty bucks they were once College Republicans.

Gravatar Or anti-abortion loonies.

Gravatar Or Glenn Beck.

Gravatar Well, Randal, at least that might cut down on the number of protesters in Alabama next week -- they're coming here to harass patients at a women's clinic. Coincidentally, they'll be here for the anniversary of the sentencing of one of their heroes, Eric Rudolph, who bombed the clinic in 1998.

Gravatar Thanks, Tom, for the perp names. All three are from North Carolina.

Gravatar If letting clergy offer a Senate invocation is an "official stamp," then the practice violates the establishment clause, whether the clergyman is Hindu or Christian.

Get rid of it.

Gravatar Completely agree with Nancy.

And no, it didn't occur to me that it might have been the Senators heckling, as they go on the record. Though I suppose it wouldn't have been out of character for some of them. I assumed merely that it was their constituents, their most vocal supporters and their campaign contributers, the organizations from which they happily accept donations and endorsements, the people to whom they are perfectly willing to pander by stirring up hatred with legislation against women and gays and other religions and countries and ethnic and racial minorities. You know, those people. The senators' bosses.

I'd like to hope every Senator present was embarrassed, but it seems pretty unlikely.
