Morning SteveO and the rest of you heathens !!

Ad ohh yeahh..FRIST !!

A new low.

That's all I can say, really.

This is, at least partly, about trying to blunt the effect of the Sept. 24th impeachment rally.

We'll be seeing more of this 1934 Nurenburg bullshit.

It's also a case of trying to recreate Saddama Bin Laden, as bushCo desperately tries to sustain the pre-war lies that they used to beat the war drum.

oh my god. am i on crazy pills?

WHAT!?!?!? Am I takin' CRAZY PILLS here?

I can't believe what a fucking SOAP OPERA the US has become...

Let me off this bus, I'm feeling motion sick...

damn, beaten by the Hubris...

Guys, from over the other side of the atlantic it looks like you need to start sharpening those pitchforks. This is incredible. This is not a modern democracy. DOD? "America Supports Your Freedom Walk"? Fuck, Orwell couldn't have dreamed this shit up.

Steve sounds like he's still in shock at this. I'm looking forward to what he'll say when he picks his jaw off the floor.

I really do need to get the fuck out of this country.

I'm sure that the GOP Youth will bus people in. After all, they're fighting the culture war.

Lockheed Martin? Where's Halliburton?

The official websites (from the DoD press release):

Why is it always country musicians who participate in this crap(along with Ted Nugent & Lynnyrd Skynrd)? I think even Jessica Simpson would participate in this crap.

This year they already screwed up the Boston Pops by having a bunch of country music during the fireworks (and NO 1812 Overture!).

And, one of the real problems for bushCo, is that people are, predictably, using the casualty figures as a yardstick for just how fucked up it is in Iraq.

In the past 48 hours, 10 more of our troops have died, and about 30 Iraqis. But the news of this is not getting much play. I think bushCo is using the "we have to notify next of kin first" thing, to try to drag out information on casualties, to the point where it gets confusing to both the media and to the public.

Still workin' on that EU passport....shit...

Note the support from one of the war's biggest cheerleaders, the Washington Post newspaper.

Will the marchers have to sign loyalty oaths?

I keep saying it and it keeps coming true. There is nothing this administration won't do. They've broken evry law they wish to. They've pushed back on the constitution when it was a barrier to them. They will continue to act in this manner until they are out of office. There is no negotiating with them. There is no compromise. They're right and it's a divine right they're claiming drives them (as though unbridled greed were divine).

America, 51% did this to all of us. Until a good portion of that 51% starts suffering nothing will change.

Hmm. We'll see how this gos down in about a month. With public opinion in the tank now, I suspect it might be slightly worse a little later on down the road.

This is unbelievable. If I were a Repug, I'd at LEAST conclude that this administration needs a Secretary of Public Relations to nix bone-headed stunts like this.

(Please, I pray: Let 'em keep pissing people off.)

"America Supports Your Freedom Walk" sounds like a pantyhose ad.

think they'll play Horst Wessel?
SA marschiert mit ruhig festem Schritt...

It may seem to be small potatoes compared to everything else, but the one thing that this administration has done that pisses me off completely out of proportion to the offense is that they have stripped the word "Freedom" of any meaning.

The "Freedom Walk", "Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast", "Operation Iraqi Freedom", "Freedom High School"; which I drive by every morning on the way to work. "Freedom" used to mean something - our heros are those who fought for this: both on the battlefield and in the streets, in the courtroom and the halls of Congress.

Since a word that means everything actually means nothing, "freedom" has become sort of a fuzzy feel-good concept that is dragged out to smear lipstick on whatever pig we're being sold today. It's greatest utility now is that of a bullshit warning - it tells you that the next words out of the speaker's mouth are going to be pure, unadulterated crap.

The neocons are panicking.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at how this admistration is willing to grind anything into cheap political capital, treat anything with utter cynicism. But this shows their ability to mine depths I didn't know existed.

I can only presume it must be pleasant and peaceful, waking up every morning without a thought for anyone or anything besides hoarding money, clinging to power, and winning the latest political point.

Unspeakable bastards.

It's a well-worn gimmick to bamboozle the rubes: boasting about things one ought to be ashamed of.

But even by flim-flam standards, this is an egregious, bloated obscenity.

"America Supports Your Freedom Walk" sounds like a pantyhose ad.

It sounded better in the original German.

"This year they already screwed up the Boston Pops by having a bunch of country music during the fireworks (and NO 1812 Overture!).
Mike the Mad Biologist "

Jeezus, Mike, I thought I was the only one who noticed that abomination! It's the NASCARization of this country, or something equally disgusting.

Have I mentioned today how happy I am that I left for Denmark?

This concert makes me want to puke up my lunch.

This is bullshit. I've always believed that the government has a right to speak, but it should limit itself to "Only you can prevent forest fires," "Don't litter," and the like.

That the Washington Post is a partner to this psychological operation (PSYOP), or "information operation" or "strategic communication" as they call it now, is abominable.

Will Commando Solo be broadcasting on all frequencies, dropping leaflets?

The problem is that the premise of the thing is so bland and broad that few will recognize the aspect of fascist mobilization in the thing, and those who do will not be able to articulate their objection in a soundbite. "How can they be against a rally supporting the troops?" That will be the talking point.

In its own way, it is brilliant.

OK. Fine. Nuremburg II. Fine. We'll call it "Triumph of the Swill"

But who the HELL is Clint Black? How much money is he going to make off this? Stupid question, a ton. But who is he? Come back when you get Willie Nelson is what I'm thinking.

Why does Jared hate America?

it's not just the wapo. several wdc based media are sponsors of this bullshit. stars and stripes i understand, but what the fuck are Washington Post, WTOP, ABC/WJLA-TV Channel 7 and News Channel 8 doing by supporting a military salute to dear leader. this is very alarming.

Why don't we have a Pearl Harbor Party with hula dancers, and an Oklahoma City Overture with a parade let by a "shiny little surry with the fringe on the top," as well. Nothing like having a sing-along to celebrate a tragedy.

If ever this Administration would cook up a publicity stunt this disgusting that would alienate almost every American, this one is it. This is even more nauseating than Bush's Carrier Caper and his Turkee Trot.

Looks like if you register to walk, you get a free t-shirt. Cool.

Let me get this straight. They're going to have a party....a god damned fucking PARTY to celebrate 3000 people getting MURDERED? Did I get that right?

Let's see, in Japan, kinda recently, they rang a bell, very solemnly, to honor 100,000+ people killed (I did not say murdered, and let's not go there right now) in Hiroshima.

We, on the other hand, the Arsenal of Democ...er, the Home of Democracy, Land of the Free, are going to have a Parade and a Free Concert.

Great place we have here, love what we've done with it.

What about the free beer?!?

Oh, right, devout Christians© no dancing, etc.

Jesus wept.

Duckman

that's it exactly- George and Dick's Excellent Adventure
party on, dude

I'm pretty sure that once the shock of this massive propaganda effort wears off progressives every where, the comments will flow. I think some very clear and frank letters to our local newspapers outlining why this celebration of Bush failure is wrong would be effective. No humor nor ranting just a quiet... we need to remember that 9/11 was a serious assualt on America and a sad event.

It is important to point out that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and that Osama bin Laden is still free and plotting... all because of that failure in the Whitehouse.

I wonder if those Republicans worried about the questions of greiving mothers came up with this to blunt them?

Let 'em have it-it will likely decend into total chaos as demonstrators clash with bussed in young republicans and police just beat the crap out of anyone...

Oh, wonderful. United States Celebrate Atrocity Day.

In the words of Victor Meldrew of One Foot in the Grave fame, "I can't beLIEVE it!"

I bet we can get more peace marchers there than pro-war protesters there.

Hitler had his rallies in Nuremberg....

Yes, Bee, but as I find myself pointing out with increasing frequency, Hitler was a talented public speaker.

Yes, Bee, but as I find myself pointing out with increasing frequency, Hitler was a talented public speaker.

May Day! May Day!

From me, the rescue call. God, do we need rescue from BushCo!

Regarding Rummie's martial march and country music concert: Reminder of May Day in Red Square.

That was my first thought. Dear Leader Kim did not come to mind immeidately.

The disgust was co-emergent with the thought of military parades in Moscow.

Meanwhile, the front page of CNN:

'Choking game': Deadly child's play

How dare you question the morals of our war time leader?!? He is above reproach and timid fools such as yourself would wilt with fear in the mere shadow of His great prescence!!

All Hail Bushyfeld!!

Now, would someone help my with my prosthetic?!?

Disgusting. Thanks for the link to the Kos diary -- wow.

The 9/11 family members could get some major PR by doing a counter demo. Letters to the editor, which someone mentioned up thread, is also a great idea. Use their BS propaganda event to do counter PR. After all it looks like the whole DC media will be there. You know the other thing that would be great? The progressive religious community could hold a very simple and respectful memorial a la what took place in Japan -- and specifically debunk the 9/11-Iraq linking crap. The contrast would be clear as a bell.

Clint Black is one of too many pop musicians who would play or do anything, including dress in sherwal and a turban, if that would sell records. On one hand, country music has nothing to do with "freedome;" on the other, it reveals a stunning lack of understanding what is true homegrown American music (e.g., jazz, blues), AND, more tellingly, it's a surefire way to make this a lily-white event. Are the t-shirts brown?

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse...

Oh, and note how this furthers dilutes the very meaning of LABOR Day.

Yes, I know our soldiers work hard in dangerous conditions, much more so thanks to BushCo, but, Labor Day was designated to honor the general labor force and the labor movement.

I mean that's one of the few times of the year one can depend on some sort of news coverage of labor's issues!

Can the unemployed form a union? The Amalgamated Unemployed Downsized Managers of America, for example? We need to give the labor movement some mojo.

AUDMA--need to work on that....

Does anyone know how much they're spending on this atrocity? I wonder how much body armor it would buy.

"I love a parade!" - Osama bin Laden

Pathetic.
Tin-Pot-esque.
Worthy of Old Argentina.
Hey if this keeps up maybe Europe and China will fight the US in a 4 year global war and liberate Americans from their dear leader.
Maybe then we can let Mexico do to Texas what Russia and Poland did to Prussia. One can always dream.

Why not take over the parade? Why not have 100,000 people show up with Bush Lied, US Out of Iraq, Why Is Bush Killing Our Soldiers signs?

I mean, if it's the Freedom walk and we're free, why not join 'em with our free opinions?

Footage of police cutting down any dissenting signs, pictures of the Bushie Faithful screaming abuse at protesters.......well, it would sure ruin their photo op, wouldn't it?

I doubt this is actually going to come off. It would be too much of a gift if it did.

Tasteless isn't the word. Obscene is more like it.

I hope they don't skip the torchlights.
It looks so much more impressive.

And maybe W can fire a gun while reviewing the parade.

Arakasi - the Germans are still having problems with the way their language was twisted.

Perhaps Rumsfeld is trying to atone for his appalling performance on 9/11, when he and the president were supposed to have coordinated the defense of the US. Rumsfeld was missing in action and out of the loop on 9/11.

"I love a parade" Osama bin Laden
Thanks Mick ,I'm off to work with that thought in my head. You made my day !

Anything to divert attention away from the fact that four years after 9/11, Osama Bin Laden is still alive and free.

When exactly did 9/11 change from a national tragedy to a national holiday?

Damn, this makes me sick.

You're wrong about one thing. This kind of stunt would not have shamed Franco. He would have loved it. When I read about this I had an image in my mind of thousands of uniformed soldiers marching line after line in perfect synchronization. The route is lined with flag. Funny, though... the flags aren't American. They are Soviet.

They are celebrating hitting the trifecta. They might as well give Osama bin laden a medal of honor.

Good ol' Clint Black, putting the "cunt" back into "country."

As someone present in Manhattan on 9-11, let me dispense with my usual politeness:

FUCK BUSH AND FUCK RUMSFELD

How many times do these douchebags have to be reminded? Americans do not celebrate or commemorate national traumas with vulgar parades and concerts.

The obnoxious nationalism and militarism on display is an insult to any American who understands this country's core values -- we deserve better than this banana-Republican display.

Let me get this straight. They're going to have a party....a god damned fucking PARTY to celebrate 3000 people getting MURDERED? Did I get that right?

Duckman -

Last year, my employers held a so-called Patriot Day picnic to commemorate the September 11th murders. The flyer circulated to employees contained not a single hint of reflection or dignity, and instead highlighted the squirt gun fights, softball game and two kegs of beer (I refused to attend, as I was disgusted by the idea and said so, loudly).

Needless to say, the entire board of that company (a smallish software development shop) are all knee-jerk GOoPites, and staunchly support the tie-wearing chimp.

My point is that, to the Republicans, there is no difference between honoring someone's sacrifices and exploiting them for whatever political gain they can wring out of it. They are absolutely incapable of seeing the vulgarity of their actions.

Tasteless only begins to describe this event.

I visited the DOD-sponsored links posted above last night and got the creeps while blinking in disbelief. Strange that one webpage is hosted by the Pentagon Credit Union website - even stranger that my tax dollars are uderwriting the whole shebang!

Think Karen Hughes helped dream this up as an aside to her fabulous (and fabulously effective, doncha think?) duties as BushCo's Overseas Information Minister?

So disappointed that Subway is a sponsor, since I now will have to boycott one of the few quasi-healthy fast food places near me.

ugh.

spencer,

In New York, people would have been beaten for such an idea.

On 9/11 we hope for warm cloudy days for a reason.

How disgusting.

Wow.

Oops. Big misrembering of date! Gotta work on that too....

Not Labor Day.

Actual day of the attack--Worse.

Anyone know what the photo depicts? The soldiers look sort-of American and sort-of not...

Oh yeah, Clint Black should roast in hell for participating in this monstrosity. Why not piss on some graves instead?

Steve, do you realise how much time it would take to piss on all those graves, especially with the travel time involved? this is much more efficient

Lockheed Martin? Where's Halliburton?
Stupid Fat Ass

who do you think builds the reviewing stands on a "cost plus" basis?

How hard would it be to buy a block of, say, a thousand tickets, stash a bunch of posters, and break out in protest in the middle of this thing? What would they do, arrest all of us? At the very least, it would focus some attention on this incredibly smug hypocrisy. Goddamn it, I'm sick of not being able to say I live in a free country anymore.

I'd love to hear Mike Malloy's comments on this one... what part of having a parade to celebrate the failure of an administration to protect its citizens and which led to the death of 3000 New Yorkers/Washingtonian and others PLUS 1600 military personnel PLUS the thousands of maimed and wounded PLUS tens of thousands of Iraqis killed or wounded who now burn with hate toward the US seemed like a good idea?

Why is it always country musicians who participate in this crap

It is the music of Real Murcans -- white, primarily suburban or exurban, primarily Christians, not overly educated, not foreign-born.

And didn't Lee Greenwood write the National Anthem or something?

Wow...

When I get to Berlin (Thomas, clean yer couch off, shit's getting bad over here), I'll have to be sure to organize a "Shoah Street Fair" complete with wurst-eating contests, free beer, and lots of oompah music...

Murfman --

What would Jared think?

Gilly--oh, yeah, is Rummy in jail yet? Indicted? Gimmie my soap!

When I get to Berlin (Thomas, clean yer couch off, shit's getting bad over here), I'll have to be sure to organize a "Shoah Street Fair" complete with wurst-eating contests, free beer, and lots of oompah music...

Careful, Jen -- if Michelle Malkin's reading this, you'll give her ideas for a February 19th "Intern-Fest" at Manzanar.

I tried to go to the website to register my, ahem, disapproval on their registration form but it appears as if they're having a wee bit of a traffic problem. No doubt hundreds of thousands are crowding the internets to sign up at once to support Presidentissimo For Life's most excellent GSAVE pep rally. NOT!

I'm thinking the same thing Meg is thinking. If this is a public march how can they keep us out?

I'm sure they can or will ban all signs when they hear we are joining them. But my t-shirt will say on the front: support our troops bring them home now
back: Bush lied and 1900 soldiers died (it will be there by then)

I don't get it. How do they think they can keep us out? Will they hire thousands of phony SS agents to screen the marchers?

I just registered my buddies, This Is Sick and Just Damn Sickening.

I never do stuff like this: I just dropped a line to the Subway "comments" site, letting them know I appreciated, to the tune of about $500 a year, their tasty, healthy and conveniently-available sandwiches, and letting them know that I'll never buy another again, and why.

About Subway being a sponsor; at first I was like "WTF?", but I don't think it's worth boycotting them or anything like that. This is just a tacky, corny event that Subway is sponsoring for commercial reasons. You might as well boycott them for advertising during a TV show you don't like.

In New York, people would have been beaten for such an idea.

Which is exactly what I suspected - but when I said this out loud to the powers-that-be, all I got back were blank, uncomprehending stares.

"We're remembering their sacrifices and letting them know we still stand with them. Why would they think it's offensive or disgusting?"

"Oh, I don't know - maybe because you're commemorating the mass murder of their friends and family members with softball, beer and squirt gun fights instead of a more appropriate event?"

Like talking to a fucking wall, it was.

I don't think it's worth boycotting them

Fuck that. It's not like they're the last sandwich shop on earth.

way to go with that latter to Subway jefes, Somebody in St. Louis.

And Upper West: what would Jared say, indeed!

I say sick, distorted, disrespectful ... words do not suffice for this latest page from the Orwellian playbook.

Jen,

We're talking about Karl Rove and we have to wait until the end of the Grand Jury in October. I'm sure that you're familiar with the Prettyman building. Well, sometime in October you will owe me $50 towards a football jersey, because someone will be announcing indictments there.

Magnum,

Boycott? Nah. But a letter to them might be better. I don't think they realized, like most people outside NY, how truly offensive this will be seen as.

"Freedom? Freedom? That is worship word. Yang worship. You will not SPEAK it!"

I want to take Rumsfeld and Bush and clock them over the head with an iron bar. What the previous poster said about the debasement of the word "freedom" by this administration is quite true.

I hate them. I hate them with every fibre of my being for what the GOP has done to this country. They cheapen the sacrifice of generations with stunts like this.

I hate them for destroying my country.

We're living history here folks. This is how fascism takes over a liberal democracy.

The thing that no one seems to be asking yet is: how much is this idiotic event going to COST? How much is the Pentagon plunking into it, and why is it not going to support our inadequately equipped forces in Iraq, if they're so hot on supporting America? This is beyond nonsense, it's cruelty.

Why they gotta play some dry-ass redneck shit like Clint Black? Couldn't they at least bring the freedom funk with some Kanye West? He supports your freedom too! Who better to symbolize freedoom against all odds than Michael Jackson?

the more i think about this little hoedown, the more pathetic i think it is. look at these directions: gathering in the parking lot; marching past the pentagon (which they helpfully remind an airplane crashed into); a walk thru arlington.
so let's lowball the turnout to a few thousand dressed in great blobs of red, white and blue waddling thru the nation's cemetery, which is ordinarily the site of the most profound and solemn ceremonies.
this is grotesque.

"The Freedom Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 in the Pentagon South parking lot, near the site where the airliner crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. The walk route will consist of a two-mile trek through Arlington National Cemetery, over the Potomac River, and will end by the reflecting pool on the National Mall, where a free concert featuring country music star Clint Black will take place"

I just went to the site again and clicked where it said click here for details. Read down it says:

Q: Where do I check in for the America Supports You Freedom Walk?
R: Participants are encouraged to arrive at the Pentagon South parking lot between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. for screening to avoid long lines. The first 1,000 to arrive for screening at the Pentagon on September 11, will receive the official America Supports You campaign lapel pin.

They do plan on screening people!

WoW!

Next question. how do they plan to keep people from joining the march someplace along the route?

They must have this very well thought out. Even scarier than I first thought.

just went to wolcott and he's thinking the same thing -- this is pathetic.

i bet this is gonna backfire, bigtime.

Wait, forget Clint Black. Do -- Bobby Brown! The fact that that crackhead is not in jail at this very moment but instead turing his life into a reality TV show is living testiment to the power of freedom!

He could open the show by dedicating "My Perogative" to the White House retard.

Whole thing is disgusting. Will be interested to see how it turns out. Hopefully bad.

Bloody Hell! I just watched some video from N. Korea. Huge rallies organized by government in support of failed policies in the absence of reason. Then I read about our own follies at the fingers of these monsters. What a horrible joke. I'd say that they should be ashamed but I know that they won't be. Propaganda is governence to these people.

I just posted a quick-link of this to Plastic.com- I hope that's allright.

(I don't know how to do trackback).

And of the suggestions so far, my favorite is the naked prisoner pyramid building contest..

wheeeeeeeeeeeeee 9/11, let's party like it's 1999.

god, i'm so depressed.

The ghost of Abbie Hoffman is planning on spiking their alcohol-free Country Cola with 10µg/mL LSD-25.

All it takes is a half o'cup, and we'll make freethinkers out of all of them.

Pray for a hot day.

Thank you, FDRLincoln, for the Star Trek reference. Made this thread complete, it did.

Gods, but I love the Internet.

OT, I don't know which is harder to believe: that they'll actually go through with this, or that my nation has become such a bunch of yahoos that many of us will think this is appropriate.

Propaganda is governence to these people.

Well, at least Sekret Ajunt Bloomie will have a reason to crawl out of his mom's basement and get some sun.

Even putting aside all the morally repugnant elements of this, isn't it potentially a massive political blunder? I don't know about y'all, but I'm ready to head to our nation's capital for a big public gathering in support of our troops and make my views on the issue heard. If my approval ratings were as low as theirs, I'd be trying NOT to pour gasoline on the fire. And you know the DC cops will have a thing or two to say-- didn't the administration stiff them with the Inauguration bill already this year? I'm not at all sure they're going to be able to control this, and there are a lot of real downsides for them and potentially for the nation as a whole if this goes bad. But maybe that's the goal-- use this to further divide the nation and then use our attempts to participate to justify further encroachment on civil liberties.

Hijack their party.

Come dressed as a Disney Wrepublican.

Undress as whatever you feel.

With 100,000 of us we could take it.

My fav C&W joke v 2.0

Q: You know what you get when you play a Country & Western Defile the Dead Hoe-Down backwards?

A: You get you dog back. You get your truck back. You get you fucking country back.

I lost a friend in Tower 1 on 9/11. I can't claim to know how she would want 9/11 to be remembered, but I feel quite sure that this so-called "Freedom March" would NOT be what she wanted.

Remember, these guys did not want to get Bin Laden when he was cornered in Tora Bora. As the CIA Jawbreaker head Berntsen has said they where "waiting for orders". In the mean time eye witness said that helicopters flew in and were gone in 15 minutes. And the only open escape route was to Pakistan through which larger numbers of Al Qaeda fighters escaped.

Without Bin Laden out there, we could not have had Iraq imperialism and debacle, no Patriot Act and the new Soviet era.

But what is the most scary for America is the brazen collusion between the highest levels of this administration and the most reputed media organizations to subvert the rule of law by dishing out known false information (propaganda) as factual reports. And then conspiring to hide the facts.

And yet 51% believe that it will not come back to haunt them personally!

HEIL!

HEIL!

HEIL!

This is extremely disgusting. It's like something out of Bizarro World or 1984. But keep watching -- it'll keep getting worse. People want to believe the administration, as it makes them feel less afraid and tougher. What's next: The 9/11 Dancers, propaganda books for "patriotically" teaching it in school, Two Towers the reality show, who knows?

Are those units of the Chilean armed forces? At least there should be some nice hats at the parade.

Let's two step to the goose step.

This is just insane. A Leni Riefenstal moment..

"The thing that no one seems to be asking yet is: how much is this idiotic event going to COST? How much is the Pentagon plunking into it, and why is it not going to support our inadequately equipped forces in Iraq, if they're so hot on supporting America? This is beyond nonsense, it's cruelty."

I did ask that question, actually.

And I think it would be better to tell Subway to pull their cash from this garbage and support soldiers' charities instead.

Magnum -- True, although I vow never to darken the sneezeshield of a Subway counter again, in my underconsidered opinion "boycotts" are rarely effective, and Subway's misstep hardly warrants a mass effort. A subthread over at dKos indicates that Subway's "sponsorship" was a local decision, made without "HQ's" knowledge, perhaps by some regional manager who got the impression he was helping out with a neighborhood commemorative picnic or something. Nevertheless, a little noise now might give management some pause whenever the Department of Defense of the United States of America comes around again asking for their help printing up their event's t-shirts or whatever.

Speaking of neighborhood picnics, doesn't it seem like the screening table plans, and posting the "who's coming?" signup sheet little more than
a month before the event, suggest that the organizers have, er, little understanding of the desired *scale* of their operation? Rummy may have had a bigger role in planning this than you'd think. Didn't General Shineski usually chair the planning committees for these little Pentagon shindigs?

I have always said that the greatest threat to the United States was not from the Left (read Communist) but the Right (read Fascist). American leftists are conservative by European standards. So it comes as no surpise that the Bush Adminstration is looking more and more like time travelers from 1930's Germany.

George is, of course, no Adolph. Adolph was in control of his psychopath underlings. George is a mouthpiece for larger and darker forces. When he speaks you can see his visible pleasure at finishing a particularly long string of words. People often mistakle this look as being reflective of the meaning of those words, but George doesn't know the meaning of most of what he says. If you watch close it is real clear. If he ever was allowed off script it would be like,"I sure do like going to the Ranch. Makes me feel kind of manly going out and clearing brush and riding horses and all. Then I get to go eat Bar-b-que. Yah, I really like Bar-B-Que"

So expect more 1930's events in an attempt to muster support. Brace yourselves we still have not had the "night of the long knives" and for them to completely take away all right and shut down the blogs, they need an attack on the homeland agian.

"Just because you are paranoid does not mean that they are not really after you."

Clint Black needs some Blog education.

"Clint Black needs some Blog education."

I just went on his fansite and politely let him know that I was appalled at his celebrating the deaths of 3000 Americans. Same thing to Subway and the Wash. Post. Rummy's too stupid to understand, but the corporate sponsors will definitely get nervous if enough people complain.

This is on the first real day of NFL football. They're tying Sept. 11 into the NFL, nice and patriotic. Mom, apple pie, and football. Let's all have a parade, listen to some C&W, a moment of silence for the dead on Sept. 11 and our dear dear soldiers, and watch us some football!

God they disgust me. I can only hope a lot of people see through this. But...nah.

From the official site:

The America Supports You Freedom Walk is an event on September 11 that allows citizens the opportunity to remember the victims of September 11, honor our veterans past and present, and celebrate our freedom

Sept 11...Sept 11..........Freedom............. Iraq war..............Sept 11..............soldiers.....military............. ..They hate us for our freedoms.....War...........soldiers....

Blurring the lines again.

Crazy that Lockheed Martin is a sponsor.

I don't know why you couldn't wear anti-Bush&Co shirts, bring a Sharpie and write "Iraq had nothing to do with Sept 11" on your white t-shirt, or plaster your baby stroller with "Somebody Lied" signs -

this is all that is prohibited:

For visitor safety, the following items are prohibited during the walk, and at the concert viewing area: real or simulated weapons/ammunition, animals, Mace/pepper spray, alcoholic beverages, coolers, glass bottles, fireworks/firecrackers, and laser lights/laser pointers. Baby strollers are allowed for the walk. Backpacks, duffels and bags are allowed but will be subject to screening.

This is abomidible. A "sacrifice" is one made willingly. The victims of 9-11 and the war in Iraq (all victims- not just the USA's) did not willingly give up their lives. They were stolen and people like Bush and Rummy don't get that.

I am so close to getting in my car right now and driving to Crawford just to support Cindy Sheehan. This madness has to stop. The press has to start doing its job.

Sorry, Sour Kraut. Wading through both the comments here and the ones over at Atrios, I must have missed you. You're certainly a minority, though.

I wrote to the DOD through their "comments and questions" website and asked them to please tell me how much money the Pentagon was investing in this event and why it was being used this way instead of providing equipment for the forces in Iraq or assistance for the veterans suffering from PTSD and other medical issues. Wonder if they'll ever write back, although I'm sure I'll be on their blacklist forever (not that I'm not already for something, I'm sure).

Here's an idea:

If the Pnetagon "screeners" won't let you in with a T shirt or a sign with improper slogans, just paint the slogans on your chest and then strip naked as soon as you see the first TV camera.

The infamous "Gossip List" (http://www.geocities.com/mnussitch/gossip.html) notes that Clint Black "prefers uncut men... loves to give, not receive." Perhaps he's being blackmailed into performing?

Have a counter-concert. Start off with Pink Floyd's "Bring the Boys Back Home."

Lots of other stuff from the same album they could use as well,

It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black 'forty four.
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn.
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back
The enemy tanks for a while.
And the Anzio bridgehead
Was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives.

And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, as I recall,
In a form of a scroll,
With gold leaf and all.
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the Tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From Royal Fusiliers, Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy away from me.

BTW, it's personal. The writer of that song, Roger Waters, lost his father at Anzio.

oh my gosh!

It's just occurred to me that They want us to use the "We love you troops" march to protest!

How Rovian!!!!!!!

Then oLIElly et al can assert we hate the troops

Divide and conquer. Polarize.

Generate hatred before the big antiwar protest in September.

And if people use this as a venue to protest the fake war - They'll turn it around on us!

So we should just stay out of this one - save the protest for Sep 22.

That song is actually "When The Tigers Broke Free". But yeah, have a concert consisting of the entire Final Cut album... (following is Fletcher Memorial Home)

take all your overgrown infants away somewhere

and build them a home a little place of their own
the fletcher memorial
home for incurable tyrants and kings

and they can appear to themselves every day
on closed circuit t.v.
to make sure they're still real
it's the only connection they feel
"ladies and gentlemen, please welcome reagan and haig
mr. begin and friend mrs. thatcher and paisley
mr. brezhnev and party
the ghost of mccarthy
the memories of nixon
and now adding colour a group of anonymous latin
american meat packing glitterati"

did they expect us to treat them with any respect

they can polish their medals and sharpen their
smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for a while
boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead

safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye
with their favourite toys
they'll be good girls and boys
in the fletcher memorial home for colonial
wasters of life and limb

is everyone in?
are you having a nice time?
now the final solution can be applied

Randi Rhodes is talking about this travesty now and makes an excellent point - if you are between the ages of 19 and 39, do not put your information into the data base which is taking the registrations for this stupid, vile event. The site is Defense.mil.

I bet Rumsfeld is hoping people are just sucker enough to give personal information to the DOD.

At a minimum, this seems to be a ploy to divert attention from the recent revelation that military intelligence had been tracking Atta and three of his cohorts for a whole year prior to 9-11.
This fact was covered up by the official 9-11 commission (Lee Hamilton's protestation notwithstanding).
Worst case scenario, this is a celebration by the malefactors of having gotten away with the crime of the century.

Show Clint Black some love -- grassroots-style:

http://www.clintblack.com/addguest.html

it's his message board.

I chose to call several of the sponsors to voice my strong disapproval. Each listened. As consumers maybe this is the best avenue. Decreased sales represent decreased profits.

Dammit. I bet I missed the luau and Don Ho concert last December 7th? Whats up with this crap man.

This all reminds me of Honor America Day, held in the summer of 1970 on the Mall to try and turn the dismal poll numbers surrounding the Vietnam War. Bob Hope was the mcee. The whole thing fell apart as the police gassed protesters and the breeze turned towards the audience. May this ill conceived event suffer the same fate!

Profane.

It all reminds me of the Onion article "Congress Approves $4 Billion for Bread, Circuses."

http://web.archive.org/web/ 20010...d_circuses.html

why is the military throwing this party? it was they who failed to defend us on september 11.

I did my semi-yearly check up for my disability at the VA DC Medical Center today. After 30 years I was getting use to just seeing us old farts. Except, today there are these so young, world-wary, baby kids getting treatment. When Rumsfeld goes on his March past Walter Reed Hospital, they have to turn him right and pass the VA too.

What consistently blows me away about this administration is the way, just when you think they can't sink any lower and it can't get any worse; no matter how jaded and cynical you are or think you've become; right at that moment, BOOM - it gets worse, beyond words worse. And every single time, no matter how I swear to myself that I'm not going to let it happen the next time, like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls the football away, I'm shocked anew.

Nothing is sacred to these people, NOTHING.

All right, let's line dance on some graves shall we? This is beyond imagining! They have truly lost any sanity they had (which wasn't much).

I was really hoping some subversive artist was going to claim credit for this hilarious and pointed piece of satire. No? Damn.

"Patriot Day"...jeez, even more than Orwell, this reminds me of Atwood. If you look around the edges of The Handmaid's Tale, you get a lot of scary details--the rallies, the gleaming young men in uniform, the oligarchy with its secret whorehouses, the bizarre infrastructure of blandly named rituals and memorial days. "Patriot Day", "America Supports Your Freedom Walk"--what the fuck is that supposed to mean? It means nothing, therefore it's virtually impossible to argue with. People who abuse language in this way are very, very dangerous.

If this kind of Flag Waving, Country Music Playin' horseshit continues, the date 9/11 is going take on a whole new meaning for me.

Every year, I dread September 11th more.

Time for a Subway boycott.

This is going to provide good cover for getting people into the city for the 22nd. They're gonna want a ton of people there for the "freedom" thing, and propably a lot of activists who face legal trouble crossing things like borders and state lines will get waved through if they say they're going for this. Then they lay low for ten days, and there's gonna be no such thing as "Business as Usual" in DC when they march.

Other thoughts: Have provocateurs enter the march, NOT do anything to out there views, but just start getting rowdy, breaking laws and walking off the route until the police respond. "Pro-War March turns violent" would make a great headline, and once the sh*t hits the fan, the cops will be just as violent as they ever are.

There are a lot of ways smart people can (and no doubt will) exploit this thing, a simple counter-action is just the tip of the iceberg. The Administration is going to really regret this idea when it's over with.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that a Freedom Walk has screening involved?

If the MSM media had any stones left, they'd be commissioning polls and interviewing 9-11 survivors and bereaved concerning this tasteless spectacle right this moment. And if they had the analytic depth of a rain puddle, they'd be convening panels of historians, political scientists and military officers to analyse the dark motives and messages behind this.

But instead, on 9-11 it'll be sombre coverage of Ground Zero in the morning, then a throw to the perky newsreader: "on a brighter note, we now cut to a spontaneous rally and concert being held in the nation's capital. Up with freedom!"

I can't do much about most of the sponsors, but I took the cue of others here and e-mailed Subway's head office and WaPo.

Steve, the New "Freedom" tower in NYC insults me. What do you think?

So I went to the site and saw that it's not "America Supports You - (Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Citizen)" but "America Supports You - Our Military Men and Women."

So it's a giant government organized military support rally! (As if our hyper-militarized culture including spending well over half our tax money every year on militarism - as opposed to actual serving troops - isn't enough.) In short, it's a giant frickin' magnetic Yellow Ribbon at taxpayer expense!

Well, at least Sekret Ajunt Bloomie will have a reason to crawl out of his mom's basement and get some sun.
Gracchus

might be a good time/place for a Yellophant recruiting drive

I don't suppose someone could patch into their speaker system and switch it from Clint Black to the Ride of the Walküres? Of course, the reference would probably be lost on those in attendance... :-(

might be a good time/place for a Yellophant recruiting drive
preznit giv me turkee | Email | Homepage | 08.10.05 - 5:56 pm | #

I second the motion!!!

"Am I the only one who finds it ironic that a Freedom Walk has screening involved?"

No shit. Can you imagine the howls of outrage if a Demcoratic administration had tried to weed out the "undesirables" from a supposedly public event?

Why is the military co-operating with this crap after everything the Bush White House has done to them?

Ahem. "Democratic". Oh, well, y'all know what I meant.

might be a good time/place for a Yellophant recruiting drive

Excellent idea, Preznit.

Let's have a Hoe-Down / Show-Down.

They can march and we'll be waiting for them at the Mall.

Make this day engrained into American history.

500,000 vs. 500,000 converging on the Mall.

Gawd, what a Riot!

And just when I thought holding televised impeachment proceedings against the President over a blow job was as low as it could get.

jj,

No one here likes it.

They haven't been able to throw a "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!: Victory in Iraq Parade" yet, so this will have to do...

Another WTF moment. Just when you think they can't get any lower, they do. 9/11 -- let's paaaarteeeee! woo!

martinet raises a good point. How much of my tax dollars is going to pay for this event? Does this make me a "co-sponsor?"

Wow. Maybe for the finale, they can fly one of the Blue Angels into the Washington Monument, and have the pilot eject in flames and plummet to his death. That'd be a hoot.

Oh. My. Fucking. God.

You must check out the Clint Black guestbook. One woman claims that Clint Black has the power to bring people out of comas. Then, another talks about how swell his band has always been, but the addition of a certain fiddle player was the......

wait for it.......

"piesta resonance"

All within the first half a dozen entries. I think they've done a damn fine job of matching the entertainment to the audience.

Placards for the "walkers":

"Fallujah had it coming! (Wearing those tarty little see-through insurgent shorts!)"

"OSAMA! Next time you wag your dick at us on our livingroom TV's, We're NOT gonna watch! Phtttttppph!"

"Hey, London Transit Bombings,
WHO'S YOUR DADDY???"

"Japan! Thanks for the 750 PRIZED desert Koi! (Best to the aussies who are protecting them!)"

"We're practicing the "Lincoln-Navigator-Stroll", for when the Iranians close the Straits of Hormuz!"

"Ein Reich! Ein Volk! Ein Shitmire!
(We'd LIKE two of the latter, but they're NOT cheap!"

Fast Eddy, they can do the NFL-Iraq Kultur-Merger 'til they're blue in the balls, but there aint gonna be no halftime-at-the-Superbowl hoisting-of-the-victory-bauble.

(Maybe they can just project on to the clouds, a giant image of Laura and Ahmed Chalabi sitting side-by-side at junior's 2003 State of the Union address.)

I think that would be appropriate.

roxtar, that is fucking hilarious. and yet equally disturbing.

as for this march, it boggles the mind. i thought it was disrespectful to the people of new york when the republicans held their convention there to milk some solidarity from the survivors of the attacks.
but a fucking MARCH? and a LIVE CONCERT?!

ah well. one should know better than to expect quiet dignity from bush.

"There is nothing this administration won't do... They will continue to act in this manner until they are out of office..." -(ice weasel)

Until they are out office? The Jebster has other plans.

Truly scabrous, rebarbative and yet, thematic. In a better world, that march would be smashed.

Don't get mad. Get smart.

An ecumenical service for war victims, attended by as many dead heroes' families as possible, preferably somewhere in Washington. Same day.

Let's see 'em insult a church service.

Now, what's the biggest-name preacher we can get for this?

Start with Billy Graham and work down. Even in his current condition, Billy's probably good for one more sermon.

Nothing political. But everything is.

When LeAnn Rimes and Big & Rich played halftime of the NBA All-Star Game this year, I thought I'd seen the all-time least appropriate setting for country music possible in this universe.

Boy, was I wrong.

I don't suppose someone could patch into their speaker system and switch it from Clint Black to the Ride of the Walküres?

All things considered, Brunnhilde's final aria from Gotterdammerung might be more appropriate.

Bill Hunt-Thanks for the memories!

What Ice Weasel said.

That 51% needs to suffer by being tied to an ant hill while having been dipped in honey

I think what we're seeing here is an attempt to "re-imagine" 9/11 as some sort of shitty weird "holiday" that Bush & Co. can "celebrate" on an annual basis. They're pretty much convinced that they own that date.

I can see it now: "Remember, fellow Americans, how we all came together on that day? Remember how good it felt to be united?" Ah, the good old days.

Ugh. There is no depth to which this group of degenerates will not sink. We have to stop this fucking thing in its tracks.

Anyone notice how many of Bush's actions (through his henchpersons) over the past 5 years have been aimed at making him impeachment-proof? Loading every court, every commission, every committee, gerrymandering districts, buying influence, etc. We are probably stuck with the son-of-a-bitch until 2008 unless the American people get smart enough to overthrow the Republican majority in 2006.

IMHO, The most offensive part isn't the shameless PR ploy? It's that's it'll work.

why is it that to "honor" the memory of people who were mostly New Yorkers, they always use a musical genre that's probably less popular in New York than anywhere else in the country?

My grandfather is frothing at the mouth about this shit.

If I had suggested such a thing about Pearl, omfg. I would have been smacked across the room for just THINKING about disrespecting my heritage.

I have an awful feeling about this ....

"Houston, We have a problem" doesn't begin to describe what is going to happen if this comes off.

Can anyone say "Civil War"?

TM

Who are those yellow cone heads at the back of the photo? They look like whirling dervishes.

Makes me want to move to Canada. Bush and company makes me sick.

Letter sent to Subway. You should write one too.

No Jerry, we need more Canadians here in the US

Couldn't the administration make the same point with less taxpayer money by just taking a huge dump on the front porch of everyone who's lost a loved one in Iraq?

Tanbark wrote (in part):

"Ein Reich! Ein Volk! Ein Shitmire!

Tanny, you gotta stop posting things like that--my tummy is upset from, erm, excessive liquid refreshment followed by a 3-egg corned beef hash omlette last night, and I nearly soiled myself laughing.

That one needs to be a bumper sticker.

On a more solemn note, at the event where I was imbibing last night, many Europeans were in attendance, including many, many Germans--many of whom really did think that this was a prank. More than one person alluded to Triumph of the Will, and all present urged me to keep working on that EU passport...

Susie Madrak just pointed out people can't just show up and participate on the day of the Walk, they must register in advance

I wonder how they would deal with a couple million false registrations from bloggers.
Skew the numbers, get them to misallocate their resources (remainder those t-shirts), make them look wholly inadequate in the press after their inflated estimates...

It seems like a fairly simple form, one could easily write a script to populate it with random-but-(technologically)valid names and address. What are the drawbacks?

"I just went on his fansite and politely let him know that I was appalled at his celebrating the deaths of 3000 Americans. Same thing to Subway and the Wash. Post. Rummy's too stupid to understand, but the corporate sponsors will definitely get nervous if enough people complain."

Be advised that if you post a comment on Clint-boy's website PROTESTING this, your comment will NOT be posted. I did this this a.m., and my comment's not there. Neither is "weinerdogs" or anyone else who claimed to have posted there.

Hmmmm..........

Don't post there. Write to his management company or to him personally (I am looking for a contact address right now). That bulletin board isn't going to post anything negative. Get real. The management or record company signed him up for this fiasco.

As many have already pointed out, this whole thing is sickening, on several levels.

I was working across the street at the World Fin. Ctr. the day of the *1st* bombing (in '93), and have friends that lost loved ones on 9/11.

My fear is that -- if people on our side of the spectrum take to the streets and civil war/riots/whatever actually commence, won't that be the trigger to the Martial Law that the most paranoid among us have been dreading lo these last 5 years?

And how long before the Junta start building the gas chambers (or the equivalent)? [Saying this as someone who actually lost family members in the Shoah.]

just tacky.

Blast from the past: During the PMRC controvercy way back when, the late Mr. Frank Zappa appeared on the TV show Crossfire. He made a claim to the effect that once you start taking steps toward cencorship of song lyrics, you're on your way to facsism.

It seems he had a point.

Is George Bush going to dress up again?

What would be wild if a bunch of people with video cameras pre-register for the march, videotape the whole march, then edit the footage into a new documentary: The Triumph of the Will 2. Leni Riefenstahl would've been proud.

Hey! Bread & Circuses worked for me.

Aaaah, Frank Zappa...he must be spinning in his grave just about now.

Where the fuck is Jello Biafra these days? JELLLOOOOOO...we NEEED YOU.....

Bypass this DoD propaganda and come to the free concert on the 24th of September. Show how you support the troops by demanding they be brought home!

vist www.opceasefire.org

So the Bush regime wants to _celebrate_ the events of 9/11. Evidently they approve of those events. Why do they hate America? Probably because of our freedoms.

Jesus fucking Christ.

The WASHINGTON POST company is one of the sponsors. This is a newspaper whose editor piously says he doesn't even vote.

Subscribers should write letters to the editors and cancel their subscriptions and make a huge stink about the Post sponsoring a political rally with the Defense Dept.

arakasi, do you live near me?! Freedom (and Liberty!) h.s. in Bethlehem, Pa.?

This parade (and it's supposed to be punctuated "'We Support You' Freedom Walk", 'You' being the troops) proves once and for all that Bushco = Fascism.

And why is it being held on 9/11 and not Day One of "Operation Iraqi Freedom: Shock and Awe Division"??
Because Bush is BRAZEN in his continued LYING TO THE NATION about Saddam and 9/11!!

Can't anyone find that clip of him in some room when he turns and very casually admits to no connection???

And can't we get KO to play this on 9/11???????????

Do you suppose Clint Black will sing his hit "Iraq and I Roll"?

BU$H GANGSTERS turn the USA into RUSSIA / DICK-C-TATOR-Bu$h / State of EVIL / As in RUSSIA of 50 Years ago or BAD-ER

IMPEACH & JAIL the BUSH FAMILY and FRIENDS

They Know NOT WHAT THEY DO - or Do They

This administration is (to use Assmunch Cheney's own words) in it's last throes. The BushCo Neocons are very desperate. They have been exposed time and again for the lying hypocrit fascists that they are. They have done so much damage to our country we are in danger of collapse. We are broke. And in the eyes of the world we (Americans) are lying evil savage war mongers. God help us overcome our situation and regain at least some degree of integrity for our world standing. BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW

When most 3rd world countries get to this point in thier policies, the people stage a revolt. Why can we not arm ourselves with the guns the Republican warmongers want us to have, and march them into the sea?

To see Bush and Cheney, with a shotgun up thier ass, marched to the ocean, and tossed in, would be a true sign of patriotism.
Remember that all that now "rule" profit on your children's death. Oh, they all avoided service when they were called to "defend this nation" as well.

To be a good repub, and fight thier fight is to doom this country.

Let me know when you are ready to stage the revolt, otherwise I will look rather silly having the permanent snipers on the roof of the bloodsoaked "Whitehouse" shoot me dead as I call those that most assuredly pee themselves when they hear a noise at night, out to face true justice.

This is a guy who can't face a 48 year old woman when it is not strictly controlled. He has the balls of a mole.

I say the same for those that support him.

Everywhere i go on the net i am pushing for one main nickname for this thing. So the media has to mention that it has one.

I think "Reichstock" is the one that will most easily catch on.

Hopefully people with good sense will stay away from this travesty in droves.Freedom march my ass. This site is the grave of our fellow brothers and sisters who died on that tragic day, and they have the nerve to put on a show like this. We have no freedoms....what the hell are they thinking????? This country needs an ENEMA.................

Our servicemen and women are dying and those bastards are having a fucking party!?

God damn them all who take part in this "Freedom Walk"! What freedoms?

Clint Black is twice a coward; how much are you being paid Black? Why aren't you in Iraq or Afganistan with my two sons, you fucking coward! They are both career Army Rangers and eat cowards like you for a snack, you SOB!

The American Friends Service Committee has launched a campaign criticizing the Washington Post's decision to co-sponsor the Department of Defense's 9-11 Freedom Walk in DC. More info at http://afsc.org/iraq/washpost.htm

i forgot to mention this the other day, but regarding Subway's sponsorship of this thing, let me mention that i remember clearly that on the day of the attacks (i was home that day and watching the whole thing on tv) subway aired an ad about the attacks (a black screen with scrolling type) and at the end aired their logo. we get a lot of buffalo affiliates here, so it may have been aired on one of those channels, otherwise cnn. this just hours after the attacks!
this isn't the first time subway is exploiting what happened, and i think that upper management has a hand in this, so let them know you plan to boycott.

We should have them simulate the butt fucking that american soldiers did to Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghraib, and the rapes to women and boys, if we're really going to give this day of Rumbelly a whole lot of nostalgic meaning, after all, he's the FATHER OF SADOMASOCHISM, took over for Marquis De Sade when Bush christened him as "chief buttfucker" and
gave him the title Secretary of De Fence
**** LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR *****

Are you kidding me...first the author of the blog repeatedly spells DoD "Department of Defence." If you had anything to do with America, you might notice that, unlike the British, we spell the word with an "s" rather than a "c." I respect many viewpoints on the war the author refers to. Everyone in America is entitled to their own viewpoint, but to refer to a Charity Walk as an event where Clint Black might as well piss on graves is atrocious!!! Here in America, we do suffer our own grievances, but we also move on to recover from these grievances and serve our own country to make it better! If all you want to do is complain about OUR country, then move back to your own, and then do it!

And about Cindy Sheehan, are we not supposed to notice also how she invaded on the quiet peaceful neighbor's land and brought more disruptive actions upon this innocent bystander? He never wanted more than to live his life as HE desired based upon the American Dream! Instead, the lady, with the understanding desire to express her own viewpoint on the war and the harsh times of losing relatives lives, decided to disrupt another family's life to express her own viewpoint...that does not match the American Dream in my mind.

America is about pursuing your own dream, and pursuing your own dream should be to support the missions of our country and the majority elected leader of our country. You dont have to personally agree with the decisions our president makes on a day-to-day basis, but you should support the mission our troops are serving overseas and desire a United States of America safer from the suppression of the terrorists who have attacked our country in our past!

So you, whoever do not support the decisions made by the leaders elected by the people of our country, please move on, go to Europe or whatever country you have said you are going to move to and complain from there...enough has been said by those of you...go ahead and end the misery of the people who don't always agree with the decisions made by our leaders, but accept it and support the decision. I never asked for a sex scandal in our White House, but I supported the success of our country's leader and supported the means by which that leader sought to resolve OUR country's problems! So stop the talk and start the walk!!! Let us support this walk this weekend and let us celebrate the progress we have made in securing our nation from the terrorists abroad, and lastly, let us support our FREEDOM without the haggling of people who don't believe in the values of America and don't believe in the processes which have been in effect since the beginning of OUR country!

God Bless America and Support Our Troops!!!

the powers-that-be in our government are obviously blind...bush is so far out of sync with reality it is frightening

Well, I'm not sure what to say about your vitriol as it concerns Clint Black, but I will say this. I commend the man for doing a free show at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace as a tribute to Buck and as a gift to Buck's fans. I had the privilege of meeting him and shaking his hand. If anyone hasn't heard this song on the radio yet, don't worry, you will. Clint, this is a tribute to your Buck owens tribute:
