A guy asked abortion opponents, okay, if abortions should be illegal, what should the punishment be for women who have illegal abortions? The protesters had never given it a thought.
Secondly, one factor that might at least ramp down the politicization of abortion is technology (and science). It's feasible to imagine that one day it could be just as safe to develop a fetus in a test tube as in the womb, possibly even transfer from one to the other.

I must admit though, I am not convinced "depoliticizing" issues is a good thing in itself. Is being a political issue really that bad?
As I see it, the problem with abortion is a religious issue - and the religious dominance of politics is the real problem.
