Forgive me, but I think it's quite funny that you say this:
"I remain convinced that adults shouldn't blog obsessively about their slightly obscure pop culture fixations."
And then you follow that by saying this:
"Oh, the best thing about the episode? The soundtrack closed out with two Old 97's songs."
I mean, I know that the Old 97's were featured in The Break-Up, but that, if anything makes them at least a "slightly obscure pop culture" reference, if not a fixation that you blog obsessively about.

Well done! Heh.
I'm a latecomer to the Old 97's; I didn't pick them up until a local radio station played "Come Around" off of Rhett's solo album non-stop. They kept introducing the song as a single by "the lead singer of the Old 97's," and since I liked the single, I finally picked up the first Old 97's CD I found - Satellite Rides.
As it stands, I consider it the #2 best CD ever made. Even though I like that CD best, I've grown rather fond of all their work, and I had the pleasure of catching them in Indianapolis a couple years ago.
All that said, I still haven't seen the Break-Up. I have a moral compunction against Jennifer Aniston, heh.

Oh, you're the guy. I'd hear rumors there was someone who thought SR was their best album, but I never really believed it.
