You are such a BRAVE lady!! I would struggle with such elaboratie patterns in VERY PLAIN English, never mind Japanese!! They are beautiful, however.
I totally agree with the free shipping theory - never pay shipping if it can be avoided - always order extra! Works for me.... Enjoy and keep us posted!

thanks for the great links. I can't imagine doing intricate patterns like these withouth LOTS of english instructions but I did find the book from your post on YES Asia - Couture Knit 11 Elegance Knit -

hope this helps.

I found the first book in Yes Asia by typing in "Elegance Knits". I am definitely going to order it - and probably the knitting symbol one as well. After the grandbaby comes would you be interested in doing a knit along for the cover sweater?

This is not about this entry, but a question regarding a previous entry around 2-12 on your son John's birthday socks. Row 5 is not mentioned. Should that be knitted the same as 2 through 8?

You're too much of a temptress! I bought the two Japanese pattern books (250 and 300) from amazon.jp and paid for express delivery. Items despatched on the Saturday and here in my hands on Monday (London UK). Must look at Yes Asia now. I'm impressed with the pattern books, especially now that I've found the descriptions for the symbols at the back of the book.

Marguerite you are so so bad! You tempted me and the temptation was too great. I had to buy that first pattern collection book you showed us. Could you please share any of the great English translations with those of us that have now followed in your footsteps? GRIN.... I must be insane, but I just couldn't resist. Alas, however, the shipping notice says not to expect the book until APRIL 4th.

Too funny - what IS it about us and Japanese books suddenly??? I just bought (from Yes Asia, great company, great experience, FAST) a book I saw mentioned on MDK - "Machine Made Patchworks." WOW. I couldn't resist either...
And that lace sweater is calling me...

And I thought that I was an Enabler! I love the detailed simplicity (I know - it sounds contrary) and sophistication that the Japanese incorporate into their work. I love your reviews!!

Marguerite - I keep coming back to this post....I am so intrigued by these books - Did you order the Japanese Lace Style?? Is there anything in English in it? Can you figure it out from the charts and google translator?

Impressive. I just started checking my book collection of Japanese books bought back in 2005. I have some you mention but not all but I do have some other interesting lace books. I cancelled my order on the new Interweave lace book and will be looking for more newer books pretty soon out in Hongkong. If you do a KAL I'd love to join in.
