Stitches of Violet

Gravatar I've never used Louet Gems Pearl, but I am just starting a pair of socks with Cherry Tree Hill and if it is the same base yarn....it is wonderful - no shininess (which I agree would be not so great with a gansey)spun perfectly, soft and it feels very strong. I bet it will have great stitch definition too!
Thank you for the very kind compliment on my blog!

Gravatar Thanks for all the great tips! The gansey pattern is beautiful, well worth finding just the right yarn. Hope you get some sunshine soon.

Gravatar That's quite a compliment coming from an amazing knitter like you Marguerite, thank you!

Enabler, moi?

I think you'll be thrilled with either the Pearl or the Opal for your gansey, I can't wait to hear what you think of the yarn and what color you choose!

Gravatar Debi is sooo completely right about the Pearl. It's wonderful - soft but will still show all your designs beautifully.

Gravatar The gansey pattern is so nice-I hope you can find just the right yarn!

Gravatar I second Debi's recommendation - I had forgotten about the Louet's. I used the sport weight for a Elspeth Lavold and it is great yarn! Wonderful stitch definition. I've not had great luck with Knit Picks sock yarn - they've fuzzed a little and you definitely don't want that for a gansey. If you're spending that much time on it, I wouldn't let price alone dictate your choice.

Gravatar I haven't commented for awhile but have thoroughly enjoyed all your posts and knitting and birds etc. You pushed me over the edge! I have wanted to do the Crossed in Translation sweater for more than a year but just can never justify ordering more knitting patterns, especially in another language! But your posts thoroughly convinced me so I ordered that today and the red one with the knitting symbols in it...I sure hope there's English!
