I love the picture of Pappy next to the oxygen machine - that one ear up, one down is adorable. He does look a little proprietary about it!

You have been in my thoughts these past few days. I'm glad you are finding comfort where you can. And I have a feeling your yard will always be beautiful, maintenance or no. It's too full of nature not to be. Hang in there.

If I find one, I'll have to take a picture of a monarch caterpillar for you.

Inspite of your trials, your post still can make me chuckle - your reference to Pappy was quite humorous to me. The beauty of your yard has just changed and from a wild life perspective - I'm sure they love it. Take care of yourself and hope that all goes better for you and your dear family.

I find it is easier to find the monarch eggs for some reason. I've only ever found one caterpillar, and when I tried to pick it up I bumped it off the plant and couldn't find it again. Maybe they drop off when you disturb the plant. Anyway, we look for monarch eggs every summer and usually are able to hatch 2 or 3 in the house. The eggs are teeny tiny, about the size of a period, and are white, or translucent-ish if the cat is about to hatch out. They are always on the underside of the leaves. Hope you can find one, my kids and I love to watch the metamorphosis.
