There is another point of commonality -- Guido's invention allowed young whipper-snappers to circumvent the stranglehold their seniors had on knowledge of the chant; rather the way so many young people are discovering that what the dinosaurs of the Liturgical-Industrial complex have tried to push down our throats isn't true.
Quoth the polyester plesiosaur, "Oh, Vatican Two did away with all that!"

He was a monopoly breaker who loathed the cult of the experts and hoped to democratize the chant experience. Interesting, he also wrote a tract against simony . . .
