Kath.net emailed me and I got the translation out to everyone and their uncle. Fr. Z. quotes part of it. Here the whole thing:

The author of the article is Klaus Badde of the german daily Die Welt. He's a Vatican insider.

No, Jeffrey, I don't think that they are only two forms of the same rite. I spent a life in studying the Roman Rite, and may say, the Novus Ordo is only a reminder of the Liturgy of Rome. The "new" what we can (should?) be introduced in the "traditional" rite is not the WHAT but the HOW. So the MP is only a temporary solution of the conflict; if it would not be so, how can we speak of "mutual inspiration"? (This desire supposes that the things will change during the following times). This temporary period might be long, perhaps very long, but finally the whole Church have to return to the WHAT of the Roman Rite (with its noble local variants), and to make it more alive with the HOW of the Novus Ordo.

As my Kath.net friends tell me, there is also a French report now, independent of the German one:

Maybe it is really happening. Let us pray that things go well. Peace in Christ.

If the indicated date is to be believed, perhaps the Holy Father chose the date of 7/7/7 to make it clear that the return of the Traditional Mass is a direct assault against the "spirit of the antichrist (666)"...

Now we all just need to do is find parishes that will do the old Mass.

Te Deum laudamus!
Paul Badde is also editor of the German “Vatican magazin”, the now independent former German edition of ITV.
The July 7th publication (Sts. Cyril and Methodius in the old calendar as mentioned) could be (apart from prevalent practical considerations, no doubt) intended to highlight the richness of our liturgical heritage.

"No, Jeffrey, I don't think that they are only two forms of the same rite. I spent a life in studying the Roman Rite, and may say, the Novus Ordo is only a reminder of the Liturgy of Rome."
Garbage. The Novus Ordo liturgy is used by the Bishop of Rome. Therefore, it is the Liturgy of Rome. QED.
I certainly think the idea of an ordinary rite versus extraordinary rite is an elegant manner in which to handle the issue. While it may not be particularly accurate from standpoint of history, it could very well be so for the future.

Patrick,
First of all, let's be respectful if we disagree, rather than throwing out words like "garbage" which certainly doesn't induce any kind of reasonable discussion.
Your are approaching the question from the level of use, or even legality.
Prof. Dobszay is approaching the question from a matter of historical inquiry: what was the form of the Roman rite? What was/is the Roman liturgical tradition? If we compare that, what conclusions can we make about the proximity of the forms of the modern Roman missal with the Roman liturgical tradition.
You might still come to a different conclusion, but that doesn't make his position or approach invalid, and certainly not "garbage".

July 7 will be the second anniversary of the release of the Instrumentum Laboris for the 2005 Synod of Bishops. So this may be tied back to the Synod.
But the document is unlikely to be dated as of the date of general publication; normally, a ceremonial "as of" date is chosen. Such as the Solemnity of SS Peter & Paul, the Apostles of the Church of Rome, for example.

If it's true that it has been given to these 30 bishops and is to got back to be discussed with their brother bishops then surely it's only a matter of time before someone leaks some or all of it to the press??

Everything as reported by Paul Badde, albeit the date of July 7th is not mentioned, instead it says "entro alcuni giorni", i.e. in some/a few days.
Agimus tibi gratias omnipotens Deus!
