unrelated to this post, but certainly great news: the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints has approved the decree on the heroic virtues of Pius XII, i.e. that he has practiced in heroic degree theological, cardinal and attached virtues. If approved by the Pope, Pius XII may be called "Venerable". Then we will only need an approved miracle, and the beatification can take place. Great news indeed.

Thank you for the news!
humboldt, I think you are right, but I am not sure. When they open the process they can be referred to as "Servants of God," and only after they are beatified are they given the title of "Venerable." I'll check to make sure.
Anyway, this is all great news! Let's hope and pray that there will be a miracle (or more) so that he be canonized soon!

latinmass1983, actually the title of "venerable" is given when the pope approves the decree of heroic virtues, previously approved by the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints. However, only after this has happened and after a miracle has been certified the beatification ceremony takes place, approved by the pope, in which the title of "blessed" is given to the candidate. I hope this clarifies your missapprehension.

For canonization, after beatification, a second miracles has to be recognized by the Church, in which the title "Saint" is granted to the blessed.
