Have you heard of the situation in California where pot is being grown in the national forests? They've found a way to conflate the drug war with the terror war not only in Afghanistan but also at home:
"John P. Walters, President Bush's drug czar, said the people who plant and tend the gardens are terrorists who wouldn't hesitate to help other terrorists get into the country with the aim of causing mass casualties."
What I find most amazing is that people don't really seem to care when this sort of thing happens. People don't want to think that the police are a parasitic, thieving band of thugs who will do anything to get their next adrenaline fix. People want to trust THOSE IN AUTHORITY, even though they're a bunch of power-mad incompetents.
