Gravatar Excellent, excellent essay!

"There are just too many [libertarians] who seem to lack human decency."

I concur, and it seems so strange to me. Real libertarianism is about respect for the individual and her/his rights; it follows that a libertarian should be unusually respectful of others.

Your essay & accompanying photo reminded me of the PRC's first rock star, Ciu Jian, and his album "Power of the Powerless." I have no idea what his lyrics mean, but the songs are running through my head now. The guy in front of the tank shows this power...although actually it in turn depended on the power of the commander of the first tank, who suddenly decided to follow the "don't bully" dictum. I've heard he was summarily executed less than 24 hours later for his decency.

Gravatar Oddly, it's true that many freedom loving people can be rather grumpy.

I guess it's the frustration with the state the world is in showing through.

Gravatar I admit to not uderstanding the drug war. I also don't understand what you do if you end prohibition. Would there be legal age limits for people searching out drugs? Would cheese heroin for 10 year olds be acceptable? Who would get to buy the heroin or OxyContin and who gets to sell it, the major pharmaceutical companies? Helping drug addicts with rehab is humane, prison is not. That might be a good first step.

Gravatar Alcohol prohibition ended. The question of the specifics is a political debate, ending it is a logical debate. It would be an immediate step forward if it were treated similarly to alcohol.

Gravatar You are one of the few sane people in an insane world... Keep up good work!
