Consider that the Catholic Church:
- opposes ANY form of contraception AND abortion in the same time? (We are against abortions - but don't you dare to prevent it!)
- is against sex before marriage AND divorce in the same time? (Once you marry, you are stuck with you spouse for life - but don't you dare to try to find out whether he/she can satisfy you sexually before you get stuck).
- and - this is my favorite - considers masturbation to be a "mortal sin". Sure, the consensual activity between one person is just as bad as murder.
Of course, wherever divorce, abortions, and premarital sex are illegal, The Church rabidly opposes their legalization (as it happened recently in Chile - thank God, the Church lost this one). And is they could get away with criminalizing contraception, non-marital sex and masturbation, they'd do it in a jiffy.
So there is no surprise in their position on criminalizing being gay. Hey, let's give them credit where it's due - they are showing some consistency!

Great post, but a few housekeeping issues...
First, "Migliore, who as archbishop has reached a status that Jesus couldn’t accomplish in his own life..."
Secondly, "Priest arrested for sending threatening letters." directs to an article about nothing of the sort.
Thirdly, "Priest jailed on child porn charges." directs to an article about a Presbyterian priest.

I will check the links. They sometimes change but they should be the correct ones. Presbyterians don't have priests but I will check on this. Thanks.

Of course you're correct, but journalists aren't known as the paragon of literal precision. The very first word in the article "Priest jailed for child porn" is Presbyterian. The article doesn't mention anybody but the Presbyterian, and it doesn't mention that he was also Catholic. Therefore, the use of "priest" must be attributed to journalistic error. And the article still doesn't reflect on the Catholic church one way or the other.

Marshall, I'm not disputing your comment in any way. I said I'd have to try to find the articles in question because I had a whole series of articles, some of which were of similar issues with other religions (such as Hindu priests). So what I suspect happened is that I grabbed the wrong link. I read the articles to make sure they referred to a Catholic priest and excluded some that didn't. But I forgot to grab the link when I wrote the piece and had to go back to get it. At that time I suspect I grabbed the wrong link.
