Exceptionally well written.
We would all agree that some form of tax is necessary and my firm belief is that sales taxes are the fairest form of taxes. They tax consumption and penalize those that do not reinvest their surplus into business or industry.
Problem is that unless we control government's size and spending, sales taxes would be on the order of 50% or more to replace the lost revenue that funds the nanny state.
I pay property taxes for what I own, dividend taxes for what I invest, sales taxes for what I buy, income taxes for what I earn, and social security taxes to make sure that I can retire because the government has taken my ability to invest away from me with all their damned taxes. And let's add in that each piece of the government--state, local, and federal--all have their hands in my wallet. I am left to hire expensive tax attorneys so that they can advise me on how to structure my businesses to actually be able to keep some portion of the earnings on my investments. Some system.
And oddly, the US is better than the EU, which explains why the EU is barely growing at all.
