You hit the nail on this one--but actually didn't go quite far enough.
Not only to the theocrats not care if the STD and pregnancy rates go up, but they see those as valid punishments on earth for sinful behavior. They revel in the fact that if someone fornicates, they may get an STD or an unwanted pregnancy as punishment.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that's PART of the plan--don't educate, but teach "it's all bad!" Then the godly won't have sex and those that do won't be protected and will get an STD, nyah nyah!

I equate these programs to DARE.Both should be thrown out .Let the parents decide how to inform their children.Oh,I don't want to hear that some don't know what's best.Too many laws have been passed for that reason.

(Sorry if this post duplicates...weird problems with posting....)
That Pam Stenzel, writer of the book used in the image on this blog entry, (and receiver of some of that bush money) is quoted:
"When I speak to students in schools and churches around the world, I always start by saying 'If you forget EVERYTHING else I tell you today, this is what I want you to hear: if you have sex outside of marriage, outside of ONE, PERMANENT, MONOGOMOUS, and monogamy does NOT mean one at a time, you will pay, there is price. No one has EVER had sex outside of marriage and not paid. The question we have to ask is 'What is the cost, and is it worth paying'. I guess this would also be the primary point of the book."

(Emphasis NOT mine.) Wow, EVERY sex act outside marriage has a cost? Every one? I don't even know where to begin.

Of course there is a cost in her mind. She believes the cost is punishment from God in the hereafter. So even if there are no bad consequences here (and most sex ends up with no bad consequences) she believes there will be eternal bad consequences.

To be fair, there is indeed a cost associated with such actions. There's also a cost associated with marriage and maintaining a marriage, or dedicated monogamous relationship.
Everything has a price, a cost. It's all, when you boil it down, game theory. Raw numbers, weighted by qualia. This is a perspective, of course, that has absolutely nothing to do with this woman's beliefs.
It would be interesting if someone were to ask the lady to compare the price of non-monogamy with monogamy; and then further to compare the price of monogamy to the price of marriage. /That/ would be fun to be a fly-on-the-wall for >: ).

IConrad: I can assure you that this woman is not using the term "cost" in the same sense that you are. In pure economic terms all things have costs, at the very least an opportunity cost. But this is not what she means.

Oh, of course she's not. That's precisely why getting her answers to those questions would be so entertaining.

Her answer is already clear. She would say monogamy has no cost because there is punishment for obeying God only blessings. And nonmonagamy has a cost because it violates the will of God so even if you escape earthly retribution you still must face an angry God. I'm not sure her answers would be any more entertaining than what we have already seen from her. And the concept of cost in an economic sense will be completely lost on her.

See, that's where the "what is the comparison of the price for monogamy vs. marriage's price?" bit comes in, y'know?
I remain convinced that it would totally discredit her in an audience.

Ok when you bring things up like this one must leave the fact of religion out of the picture.Religion must be out of mind when these so called laws are being passed. It is truy not possible to run a country with one religion. I am christina and love my god, BUT there is no room for it in polotics.Because the most load of polotics is nothing but how do you say a JOKE.

Please do something else with your time. You are not God, so you don't decide what is sin and not. Go collect stamps or to something else until you can put forth a more compelling argument

Me: Gee, what a stinging retort. You are a clever one aren't you. So witty and smart and with such great arguments. And I suggest you look up the word sarcasm in the dictionary (you won't find it in the Bible) so you understand that I actually think what you just said is very, very stupid.
I am not god, No one is. And I don't worry about crap like sin. I worry about crimes, people who harm others. And there is no place for the idea of sin, arbitrary offenses against an imaginary being, in a rational world. But I don't think you actually live in a rational world.
