Gravatar i literally laughed out loud at that one.

my favorite pantera memory c/o smolken:
"I still remember when Dimebag Darrel was called Diamond Darrell... the early Pantera photos are really ridiculous. Glam makeup doesn't work too well when you have a fat bearded guy in the band."

i know, i know... it's not funny when somebody days. yeah, whatever.

Gravatar Somebody days every die though. That's life bradlee. As I just wrote in an email, any band who gets rich off of being violent and pissy/angry should be prepared for their eventual execution before an audience of 400 or so.

Gravatar That being said, it's tragic, and nothing diminishes that fact. ONE person caused much harm and dismay, and I'm truly sorry Darrell got executed in such a brutal manner. Just had a rather heated exchange with an Aussie pal who knew him personally, and it is important to remember he was just a guy doing what he loved, and he wasn't hurting anybody. It is possible that he wasn't helping them either, though, especially someone as troubled as this individual. I'm just afraid there are a lot more guys like that out there waiting for a reason to pop, and a band like Pantera or *insert media mouth piece here* is just adding fuel to the fire. Not suggesting censorship or anything else--hardly, just saying be ready to get burned if you're gonna walk across them hot coals.

Gravatar Is it unfair to suggest that Pantera unwittingly reinforces the angst? I use this type of music as a relief myself, but I temper it with moments of modern classical eloquence and effeminate synth pop. It's not like Pantera sung of sacrificing babies (they might've actually been cool were that the case), but the mechanical, tight-as-shit performance and the fascist bark of the lyrics comes off as somewhat spirit crushing. A parralel could be drawn to workplace shootings, often the by-product of one sad loser's inability to cope with a soul-killing regimental existence. And then there's the whole fanaticism thing, where the shooter sees himself almost as a betrayed member of the Pantera family.

THE METAL is supposed to be about a cathartic release, and even transcendance, and that is enough for Me, but not everyone has the luxury of being me.
